Educational Philosophy

I have two years of teaching experience supplemented by my Bachelors of Science in History and
Social Science Education as well as a future Masters of Education in Learning and Technology. My
educational experiences, enthusiasm for teaching, and passion for student learning makes me an
ideal candidate for any position. I will be more than just a teacher: I will be a guide for student
learning and involvement.

My goal is to provide an effective, unique, and inspired education for students throughout my time
as an educator. Through my teaching methods I wish to share my love for this content with my
students. The content area of History and Social Sciences can open a student’s mind, not only to
the tactile world around them, but also to other places they have not seen. I understand the
influence media and culture can have on student’s lives. I plan to effectively channel this outside
source in order to incorporate technology and other forms of media in the classroom. Through this
process I will better prepare students to engage in quality conversations about the media they
consume on a daily basis. Diversity is inevitable in any educational environment, and I wish to
embrace each student’s needs and characteristics to better prepare them for the rest of their lives.

I have worked hard to learn new educational practices as they come to fruition. As an educator I am
willing to try any method that helps students learn to the best of their ability. Some methods I have
Implemented Into my teaching Include standards based grading, Individualized assessment, and
technology based notes. I also strive to keep student learning low stress and enjoyable. Any new
technique I choose to use In my classroom should Improve student lives, not hinder their ability to
thrive in a classroom.

I want to be more than just a teacher; I want to put in my time and effort into a school and district
in order to fully see the potential it has to offer. There is more to student learning than what you
see inside a classroom. I chose this field because it inspired me inside the classroom but also
because of the outside factors students experience, whether it be school dances, sports teams,
clubs and organizations, choosing a college, or just general social interaction. A school can shape
young minds just as much as a teacher can. I hope to find a school with these tools to empower
students to be better citizens with a climate of the district that is inarguably positive. Students
deserve a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment, and my goal is to be a small part of
that. I want to be a part of a system that produces students with passions both in and out of the
classroom.

Sincerely,

Madeline Henderson
