School of Mechanical Engineering in Covid-19 Pandemic.

Greeting from each and every one of us from the School of Mechanical Engineering, MIT-WPU, Pune. We
hope you are all doing fine in this Covid-19 Pandemic situation that we are going though since last three
months.

In just a couple of months the COVID-19 pandemic has escalated to a global health crisis and has
extensively disrupted (Higher) Education & Research. Worldwide education institutions, from schools to
large university systems are experiencing major challenges in dealing with closed campus facilities, and a
resulting major impact in the ability to deliver the highest level of teaching, or research execution.

Globally, most education campuses are now closed which affects an astonishing 1.5BN students, or
approximately 20% of the world’s population, and their families. Many institutions globally were forced
to transform into 100% digital learning providers in a matter of days.

A 21 days total lockdown (was got extended again till now) was imposed by the Government of India to
commence our fight with the Covid-19 Pandemic in the middle of the last trimester. MIT-WPU, Pune, was
well prepared to move to an online operating model, from a technical, pedagogical and organizational
standpoint.

Academics at the School of Mechanical Engineering had on an average completed 30 to 35 percent


teaching in class on MIT-WPU Campus and most subject teachers had assigned or completed 30 to 35
percent of the CCA (Continuous Class Assessment) and LCA (Laboratory Continuous Assessment). Students
were responsive and were

It gives me pride to tell you that each and every lecture that was planned and academic activities in the
CCA and LCA were completed by our Professors using various platforms, viz., Zoom, Skype, Webex, etc.
Secondly, most of the students have attended the online classes those were delivered over the online
mode of teaching. The below table shows how a contents of CCA and LCA were delivered to S.Y.B.Tech,
T.Y.B.Tech and M.Tech students online during last trimester:

The School of Mechanical Engineering also conducted various Subject Guest Lectures, online seminars for
Students and our Teachers helped many students/student groups in Self Study, Journal Paper Writing and
Submission. M.Tech and Ph.D Students progress reviews were conducted in online mode for this
Trimester.

The university expects the majority of courses to move into online exams that will follow an open-book
approach until the Covid-19 Lockdown situation continues. Therefore, the university is currently
determining the delivery mode to ensure that all students have accessibility, learning needs, network
availability, etc.
