1. Download the file from the group.

2. Copy the file to the desktop

3. Rename the file GEAR.pdf to GEAR.zip

4. Right click on GEAR.zip and select extract here. A folder name GEAR should appear on the desktop

5. Open the folder and right click SETUP.exe then select run as administrator
6. Click Ok
7. Click the computer icon
8. Click Continue
9. Wait for the program to be installed
10. Click yes yes yes
11. Click Ok.
12. Search for ACECOMS GEAR2003 on the programs and open it

13. As you can see on the upper right portion, GEAR: General Engineering Assistance and Reference
14. It has several functions which you can see on the screen. You can use it for unit conversion, area computations
and also for design of reinforced concrete and steel.
15. The list of things that can be done on the program can be seen on the screen once you open the program or it
can you can also see it in the toolbars.

16. We need to apply the license first before we can use the file.
17. Each function has its own license.
18. Example if we will try to use the RC beam designer. Just click the icon below.

19. After clicking beam designer a prompt will appear and tell us that the module in not licensed.

20. Close the close button. And the RC beam Section design should apper.
21. You can see in the upper left that it is an unlicensed copy.
22. To apply the license. Click on file on the RC Beam Section Design.

23. Select change authorization

24. Click Get From File
25. Go the Gear folder on the desktop
26. Open License File and select the only file you can select then click open. Click Ok

27. After clicking OK you can see that Unlicensed Copy is already removed. It means the RC Beam Designer is already
licensed. You can do the same to the other modules.
 28. To use the Program is very easy. Let’s try using RC beam designer.

29. First is to select the desired shape of the beam. Then specify the properties of the beam like fy, fys, Fc’ and

concrete cover. After which you just need to specify the loading for flexure, shear and torsion.

30. After inputting necessary values, click design. Then the results will already be shown.

31. You can also select your desired diameter then click redraw to apply changes. You can also see a detailed result

on the right side.

NOTE: The GEAR cannot be used for analysis of structures. Use GRASP for the analysis.
