GREEN COFFEE – SPECIFICATION

1. Scope of application :

This standard specifies all technical requirements for green coffee applying
to both Arabica and Robusta coffee.

2. Reference standards :

TCVN-4334-2001 ( ISO-3509-1989 ) : coffee and its products – terms and


definitions.

TCVN-4807-2001 ( ISO-4150-1991 ) : green coffee – bean size analysis


with manual sieve

TCVN-5702-1993 : green coffee sampling

TCVN-6536-1999 ( ISO-1447-1978 ) : green coffee - determination of


moisture content ( routine method )

TCVN-6601-2000 ( ISO-6667-1985 ) : green coffee – determination of


proportion of insect-damaged beans.

TCVN-6602-2000 ( ISO-8455-1986 ) : green coffee in bags – guide to


storage and transport.

3. Terms and definitions :

This standard applies to terms and conditions of TCVN-4334-2001 ( ISO-


3509-1989 ).
4. Technical Requirements :

4.1. Quality classification :

Green coffee is classified in 6 grades :


- special grade
- grade 1
- grade 2
- grade 3
- grade 4
- grade 5

4.2 . Color : natural color of each type of green coffee


4.3 . Smell : natural smell of the green coffee without strange/foreign odour
4.4 . Moisture : moisture when delivery is taken placed in Vietnam must not
exceed 13 % as per TCVN-6536-1999 ( ISO-1447 )
4.5 . Restriction on mixture with other kinds of coffee beans
( see chart 1 ).
