.&, SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

1. Make sure that the vohage selecto< switch <D focated on the underside
of the base of the microscope trame is set to conform with the local
mains vol1age.Move the switch using an Alfen wrench, etc. (Fig. 1)
()When shipped from the factory, the switch is set to 110-120V and
230·240V in ·1OOV and 200V areas,respectively.
2. To avoid potentialshockhazard and jire, always switch 1he main switch
® to "O" <OFF) and disconnect the power cord from the wall outtet
before replacing the bulb.AUow the lamp hous ng cover@and the bulb
to cool before tooching.
3. lnstall the microscopeona level table. The air ventson the unders de of
the base shou d never be blc>c ked such as by placing themicroscope on

a flexible surface,e.g.,a carpet, etc.,as this could resuh in overheating
and cause a fire.
4, Always use the power cord provided by Olympus. lf no power cordis
prov ded. p ease select the prope1power cordby referñng tothe section
"PROPER SELECT ONOF THE POWER SUPPLY CORO" at the end of
this instruction manual. lf the proper power cord is not used, Olympus
can no longer warrant the electrical safety and performance of the
equ1pment.
5. Connect the power cord cocrecttv and ensure that the ground terminal
of the power supply and that of the walloutlet are properly connected.
lf the equipment is not grounded,O lympus can no longar warrant the
electncalsafety and performance of the equipment.
6. Never insert metal objects.etc.into the a r vents of the microscope
trame as this willresult in electrical shock and/OJ personalinjury.

Safety Symbols
The foUow;ng symbols are found on the microscope . Study the meaning of the symbols. and alwavs use the
microscope in the safest possible manner.

G Getting Ready

1. A microscope is a pr&e1s1on instrument. Handle il \vith Cafe

and avoid subjecting it to sudden or severa impact.
2. Do not use the m ic roscope where his subjected to direct
sunlíght, high temperatura and hum1dity,dust or vibrations.
(For operating environment conditions.refer to and adhere 10
the conditions specifiedin Section 6. SPEC
IFICATIONS on
page 16.)
3. The tenstonof 1he coarse focus adjustment knob should ontv
be adjusted by means of the tension adjustment ring.
4. Heat from this microscopeis 10dawa" by naturalconvection.
Consequently,do not use it ina oonstJicted space andensure
that tho room is well ventilated.
5. When moving the mictoscope, carry it with one hand uoder
the base© and theother hand hold ngat the recessedhandle
on the rear of the afm @as shown in theillusrration on the
Jeft. Handle 1he m1croscope vJith care when movil'lg it.
* When moving the m icroscope, never hold the stage or
binocu
lar section of the observat on tube. etc. Also
matee surethat eyep eces, specimen, etc.do not fall off.
* Sliding the microscope on the surface of thetable may
damagc or tear off the rubber feet and/or scratch the
table rop surface.

a Maintenance and Storage

1. Clean all glass compooonts by wiping gently with g.auze. To remove fingerprints or oíl smudges, wipe with gau e
slightly mo stened with a mixrure of ether (70%) an-d alcohol (30%}.
* Do not use a mixture of ether (70%) and alcohol t30%) to c eanthe lower lens (made of opticalplastic) of
the eyepiece (NCWHK10X) because suc:h solvents cloud thelens.lf dust adhetes to thelens, blow it off
or w ipe it away gently w
ith a dry cloth.
A Since solvents such as etherand a coholare highly flammable, they must be hand led carefully.Be sure
to keepthese chemicals away from openftames or potentialsources of electrical sparks -for exampte.
electrical equipment that is being switched on or off. A lso remember to always use these chemicals
on y in a well-ventilated room.
2. Do l'IOt attempt to use organic solvents to clean the noo-optica1 oomponents of the microsoope. To clean these,
use a lintfree, soft clothlightty moistened with a d luted neutral detergent.
4

3. Do not disassemble any part of the microsoope as malfunction or damage may oecut.
4, When not using the microscope, keep it covered with the provided dust cove<.
