    This study examined how poverty, homelessness, and drug use put Hispanic women at greater risk for HIV infection. The researchers interviewed 200 Hispanic women across Los Angeles County about their socioeconomic conditions and risk behaviors. They found high rates of poverty, homelessness, and drug use among the women interviewed. These factors increased the women's likelihood of engaging in risky sexual practices and exchanging sex for money or drugs, putting them at heightened risk for contracting HIV. The study highlighted the socioeconomic vulnerabilities facing many Hispanic women and how it exacerbated their health risks.
