Topic Assessing Speaking
Purpose of the  Design a test/task to assess the different types of speaking
assessment  Discuss the unique challenges of testing speaking
Description of task 1. In the introduction to the chapter, the unique challenges of testing speaking
were described (interaction effect, elicitation techniques, and scoring).
Individually, offer practical examples of one of the challenges. Explain your
example in not less than 150 but not more than 300 words.
2. Review the five basic types of speaking that were outlined in this chapter.
Then, design your own test/task for each of the types.
Procedural criteria: 3. For the first task, you will assessed based on the following criteria:
Appropriateness (5) – The task is appropriate to the type of listening being
measured. Also, the task is aligned with the objective specification.
Authenticity (5) – the extent to which test materials and test conditions succeed
in replicating those in the target situation

( 5 types of speaking) x (10 points each task/test) = 50

You will be graded according to the following criteria


Rubric in Assessing Essay Questions Points
Appropriateness– The essay makes a clear point about the 5
question.
Focus –The essay demonstrates a very clear purpose and focus. 5
Completeness – The ideas presented in the essay are fully 5
elaborated.
Originality – The essay is not plagiarized and is properly 5
cited/referenced.

Total points for this task – 60 points

Penalties for Late Note: The score for an assessment item submitted after the designated time on
Assignments/Assess the due date, without an approved extension of time, will be reduced by 5% of
ments the possible maximum score for that assessment item for each day or part day
that the assessment item is late.

However, if the late submission of assessment paper has a valid reason, a letter
of explanation should be submitted and approved by the course coordinator. If
necessary, you will also be required to present/attach evidences.
