Introducing the New
Blom-Singer® Dual Valve
Voice Prosthesis
primary valve
Our new dual valve Indwelling voice prosthesis uses leading-
edge design to deliver on a very simple, but powerful benefit: secondary valve
two valves are better than one!
Should the primary valve fail due to Candida (yeast)
colonization, the secondary valve is intended to remain viable
to help prevent leakage of fluids. The Dual Valve voice prostheses are offered in non-
sterile 20 Fr. indwelling packages, in five lengths:
As an added advantage, each valve is imbedded with
silver oxide, an antimicrobial agent that provides significant LENGTH 20 FR DIAMETER
protection to the device for laryngectomees who are susceptible 6mm DV2006-NS
to Candida growth. Blom-Singer voice prostheses that contain 8mm DV2008-NS
silver oxide have been proven to eliminate or reduce the need for 10mm DV2010-NS
antifungal agents, such as Nystatin™ or Mycelex®. 12mm DV2012-NS

UltraVoice Plus II
UltraVoice Plus II is the first artificial larynx to provide natural speech prosody. This means your
speech will not have the robotic sound usually associated with the electrolarynx.
UltraVoice Plus II does this automatically by using a computer chip which analyzes your speech as
you talk and provides a natural sounding voice.
UltraVoice Plus II is the loudest artificial larynx ever made. Your voice will be heard across a
crowded noisy restaurant, if you want it to be. Or you can make it a soft clear natural whisper.

Oral Unit Microphone
Control Unit
The control unit contains a high speed battery
powered computer which samples your speech and Control
controls the prosody (how the voice pitch goes up Unit
and down) to add naturalness to the sound. Also,
it contains a loud speaker and amplifier which can
be used to make the UltraVoice Plus II louder than
any other speech aid.
The small, lightweight Spokeman (7 oz. w/batteries) gives a nice volume boost
for 1 to 1 or small group conversation. Cleaver carry case allows it to be worn
or carried many different ways. Longlasting rechargeable HiMH AAA batteries.
The ChatterVox comes mounted on a waistband, weighs 1 lb., 2 oz. including
its 6 AA HiMH batteries which will last for several years. Adjusts from 1 to 1
conversation up to reaching an attentive group of as many as 75 or 100.
The Voicette can be set on a table, worn over the shoulder or hung on a peg or
the side of a wheelchair. 2 lbs., 7"x7"x3" Has a NiMH battery pack that usually
gives a week or more of service on one charge. Talk to 1 person or up to 100
nearby. In a durable black, leather case. Like the other amplifiers, it has many
choices in microphones. Adaptable for use by most quadriplegics.
Some of our microphone choices. See our web page or catalog or CD for details on all our
amplifiers & mics, including larger but still
carryable amps for those who need to
reach bigger groups or wider & noisier
areas. Can amplify music, allow voice overs
and two people can use them at once.
ALSO
Voice Magnifier telephone attachment to amplify outgoing soft voices.
Special switches for very limited but controlled movement capability
Signal & message devices for quick, basic communication.
Products to analyze & treat of swallowing disorders, including two sizes
of the Thermo-Stim oral motor stimulator, a special version of the
Voicette with a stethoscopic mic to listen to & record swallowing sounds, and Kapi-Cups.

This book captures three years of the authors’ life that followed
throat cancer diagnosis and tells his personal story of facing and
dealing with medical and surgical treatments and adjusting to
life afterwards. As a physician with lifelong experience in caring
for patients, the author shares his insights and perspective on
these events as he experiences for the first time the effects
of severe illness through the eyes of a patient. He endures the
consequences of radiation, repeated surgeries, and prolonged
hospitalizations. He confronts medical errors in his care,
discrimination following loss of his vocal cords, and struggle to
regain his ability to speak again and find a new meaning to his
life. The author shares his fears, anxieties, frustrations, failures,
Dr. Itzhak Brook and ultimate adaptation and adjustment to life with continuous
uncertainty about the future.

Readers of this book will gain insight into the mind of a patient
with a life threatening illness such as cancer. This book can assist
readers in dealing with trying times in their own lives and shed
insight into the struggles that patients with cancer of the head
and neck face and how to overcome them. Through the author’s
insights, health care professionals can become more aware of
what their patients actually experience, and patients who face
similar hardships may find out how to cope with them.
