1- 1000l and 1200l storage capacity for Residential levels (L28-31) and (L23-27) seems to be undersized.
Revisit the proposed sizes (as commented by CSA) in order to avoid shortages in hot water during peak hours.
2- Confirm that B1 kitchen hot water calculations are in accordance with Fondue latest design.
3- Hot water calculations for other kitchens (GF, L2, L4, L17 and L29) is missing. STATUS-C
4- Consider the load for swimming pools heating in coordination with pool contractor.
5- Attach copy of agreed VE related to 2 hours recovery rate.

Without prejudice, Future Metro are redesigning and taking liability for
1 this design so they are well within their rights to ignore our · Noted
recommendations and proceed as they see fit.

They have indicated the hot water temperature as 65 deg C. This is · COMPLIED
2 unacceptable and is a safety risk. The water temperature needs to be
lowered to 60 deg C or below.

The type of tanks and heaters they are using shows a shell and tube
type heat exchanger inserted in the tank. This is not what was
specified. We specifically showed external plate and frame heat
exchangers for the simple reason of contamination. When the heat
3 exchanger is inserted in the tank and if there is a leak from the LTHW · Complied with External Heat exchanger as per
side, the domestic water will become contaminated. The plate and CSA design intent
frame heat exchanger we have specified are external to the tanks and
are double wall vented. This means that if there is a leak in the heat
exchanger wall, this will mean that the water will drip onto the floor
and be investigated.
They are using insertion type heat exchangers with a 3-way valve. In
this case we can overheat the water. Our design shows the plate and
4 · Complied with External Heat exchanger as per
frame heat exchanger with a circulating pump on the tank side. This
CSA design intent
will give us much better control of the maximum water temperature in
the tank.

Water storage capacities, boiler sizes, and recovery rates:

They have referenced ASHRAE for the hot water recovery duration
· As per our contract agreed V.E , we are using 2 hour recovery
and have indicated it as 2 hours. I have looked at the highlighted items
on the ASHRAE sheets in their report and it does not say that the rate to meet related authority requirements.

5.a recovery rate is 2 hours. In fact, it clearly says that the flows given in In addition , we have utilized ASHRAE as design reference ,
the table are L/hr NOT L/2 hrs. Furthermore, the sample calculation PLUMBING DESIGN GUIDE & as well as the manufacturer's
provided by ASHRAE uses the “probable maximum recommendation.
demand/3600”. 3600 is the number of seconds in one hour. NOT 2
hours.

i Storage capacity – same as CSA design @ 17,500 Litres. No ·• Noted

comments.
Heater capacity – FM proposal is to provide 512 kW against the CSA
ii value of 815 kW. We recommend that the heater sizes are reconsidered ·• As per our contract agreed V.E , we are using 2 hour recovery
against a 1 hour recovery rate, however, the boiler capacity can be rate to meet related authority requirements please refer item 5.a)
diversified.
5.c Apartments: -

More than likely, these apartments will become part of the hotel and
i will be used by visitors/tourists. Therefore, we highly recommend that ·We are considering residential apartment in our calculation as per
our contract with Omniyat.
the apartments are designed similar to the hotel. Omniyat to confirm.
ii Based on the above, the storage capacity for levels 28-7 should be · We are considering residential apartment in our calculation as
reviewed and revised. per our contract with Omniyat.

The ASHRAE standards cannot be used for sizing the tanks for 23-27
x As per our agreed Contract , we are following this design to
and 28-31 as the number of apartments are relatively small. The
ASHRAE standards are more geared to larger installations where you meet the authority requirement.
iii get the benefit from diversity. In addition these are all penthouse
apartments and failure to provide hot water will become an issue. We
recommend that the size of these tanks are revisited on a more practical
basis where the number of shower heads are actually counted, the
duration of flow is approximated, and then a possible diversity applied.

5.d Heaters:

· FM is following CSA design intent, we are using

We are still confused as to why FM is insisting on providing separate
common set of boilers for both Hotel and Residential
boilers for the hotel and for the apartments when in fact they will be
apartment( Appendix G)
i located in the same room. The benefit of providing a common set of
boilers is in the resultant diversity. Nonetheless, if FM continues to
insist on using separate boilers, then the capacities will have to be
reviewed once the above is carried out.

ii We can apply a significant diversity to the entire load for several

reasons: · We have considered 70% diversity as per the RFI response
1 The AHU heaters will not require the full heat at the same time as the by CSA on LTHW flow (FM-MX-RFI-ML-002053)
domestic hot water – especially overnight.
2 The actual off coil temperatures for the AHUs will vary throughout the
day and from unit to unit.
Objectives
· This report is intended to provide hot water calculation for the plot18 project by

Dorchester and will determine:

1. Overall hot water consumption

2. Boiler & Calorifiers capacities and location

· The reason FM proposes the calculation is due the following

o Solar system is deleted from original IFC drawings as per latest layouts.

o Plumbing Fixtures units for residential and hotel side have changed quantities

from IFC package to latest layouts.

o FAHU capacities have changed as per new architectural layouts (Impact on

LTHW)

o Apply 70% diversity on total LTHW load as per RFI MX-RFI-ML-002053

· Centralized hot water system shall serve the following systems:

o Hotel guest rooms as per new sanitary fixtures count

o Residential apartments as per new sanitary fixtures count

o LTHW as per updated FAHU units

o Commercial kitchen load shall remain as per IFC package

(This is in line with CSA design as per MEP IFC package)

· All calculation produced in this report are refereeing to ASHRAE handbooks and

standards.

o Demand factor : 0.3
o Storage factor : 1.25
o Recovery time : 2 hours

o Recovery time : 2 hours

3) Commercial kitchen in basement 1

o Tank capacity : as per IFC MEP package
o Recovery time : 2 hours

4) AHU/FAHU LTHW load

o 70 % diversity applied on total hot water flow required for FAHU/AHU as per
RFI response by CSA consultant.

Supermarkets. The trend in supermarket design is to incorporate
food preparation and food service functions, substantially increas-
