Breathing Is The Process That Brings Oxygen in The Air Into Your Lungs and Moves
Quarter 1 Worksheet 1
Name:______________________________Grade &Section:_____________________Date:_______
Topic: Respiratory and Circulatory Systems Working with the other Organ Systems
Learning Competencies & Code: The learners should be able explain how the respiratory and
circulatory systems work together to transport nutrients, gases, and other molecules to and from the
different parts of the body. S9LT-la-b26
Content:
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
SYSTEM
Is made up of organs in the body that help us to breathe.
Breathing is the process that brings oxygen in the air into your lungs and moves
oxygen and through your body and removes the carbon dioxide as we breathe out.
Organs Functions
Nose/ Nasal Cavity Is one of the pathways where air enters the body. Contain small hairs
called cilia which helps filter the air.
Epiglottis Small flap attached to the larynx which opens or closes in order for air
and food to enter
Larynx Contains the vocal cords also called as “voice box”.
Trachea Is the passage leading from your pharynx to the lungs which is also
called as windpipe.
Rib cage Are bones supporting and protecting your chest cavity.
Lungs The lungs are a pair of spongy, air-filled organs located on either side
of the chest
Bronchus (Bronchi in Trachea separates into two branches called bronchi.
plural)
Bronchioles Bronchi subdivide into the lungs into many more branches called
bronchioles.
Alveoli Are tiny air sacs in your lungs that take up the oxygen you breathe in.
Diaphragm Is the organ that controls the breathing.
Label the diagram of respiratory system below. You can select your answers on the word pool of organs
on the right side. Also answer the guide questions of this activity below.

Guide questions:
Q2. What will happen if one part of the system fails to function properly?
Teacher will be posting video of bottled balloons activity describing how the lungs and
diaphragm works in the respiratory system and answer the guide questions. Also answer the breathing
illustration below through encircling the correct word that fits the sentence.
Guide Questions:
2 straws: ___________________________
2 balloons: ___________________________
Q2. What happens as you pull down the balloon at the bottom of the model?
Q4. How does the movement of the diaphragm cause the air to go in and out of the
lungs?
Breathing illustration:
As we inhale, (oxygen/carbon
dioxide) gets inside.
As we exhale, (oxygen/carbon
dioxide) goes out.
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
The circulatory system carries oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to the cells, and
removes waste products, like carbon dioxide.
-Pumps the blood throughout -carry the materials throughout -Carries the blood throughout the
the body the body body.
Types of Circulation Three types of blood vessel:
1. Pulmonary circulation: Blood moves from the heart, to the lungs
1. Arteries: carry oxygenated
and back to the heart. blood away from the heart.
2. Coronary circulation: blood moves to the tissues of the heart. 2. Veins: carry deoxygenated
blood back to the heart.
3. Systemic circulation: blood moves from the heart to the rest of the
3. Capillaries: smallest blood
body except the lungs. vessel which connects
arteries and veins.
__________ circulation
The pattern below is the correct flow of how blood passes from lungs to the heart and vice versa.
Answer the questions below.

Guide questions:
Q1. Ho does the heart and lungs work together?
Q5. How will you describe the sequence of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and blood flow in your own
words?
Activity 5: They Work Together!
Using the video to be presented by the teacher, explain how respiratory and circulatory system work
together using a comic strip in a ¼ sized illustration board. You can see the video on the youtube; The
Heart and Circulatory System - How They Work.
