 "Green Thinking"... Engineering and Environmental.

Environmental engineering is the branch of engineering that is concerned with

protecting people from the effects of adverse environmental effects, such as
pollution, as well as improving environmental quality. Environmental engineers work
to improve recycling, waste disposal, public health, and water and air.

The practice of environmental engineering dates back to the dawn of

civilization. Ever since groups of people began living in semi-permanent settlements,
they have had to deal with the challenges of providing clean water and disposing of
solid waste and sewage. With the growth of cities and the advent of large-scale
farming and manufacturing, people have also had to worry about air quality and soil
contamination.

There is a trend for green devices/application but that is in research level primarily,
hopefully a boost in that sector could help in contribution to environment in near future years.

First, not only electronic and communication engineer, every person on earth
should contribute something to environment.

Engineering is a process where people learn lo apply the aspects of science

to imagination to invent out things, that are useful to human kind, to reduce workload
etc.

In the same way, the philosophy follows to contentiously try to improve the
quality using minimal resources, efficient(energy), robust output. These are many
factors which contribute to nature aka environment.

Re designing the things which consumes less energy is the major

contribution, (energy crisis is on ahead! ps:near future may be).

Most of the electronic industries are following Environmental specifications as

per legal/customer requirements.
 Now-a-days, most of the electronic servicing work is not done at component
level but board level only resulting in more electronic garbage and financial loss for
the consumer. (For a single component failure ,whole PCB is thrown out). Even
MNC‘s manufacturing LED TV’s are following this practice. MNC’s can train their
maintenance crew for component level repair. During CRT TV era,technicians were
doing component level repair.

Using electronic gadgets to their full operating life, not changing smart phones
even for minor defect.

Smartphones with non-removable batteries will have bad impact on

environment. Batteries has short life time because of limited charge/discharge
cycles. Now more people will dispose off their mobiles for battery failure as they
cannot change the batteries themselves. Electronic Gadget designers should not
encourage disposable culture.

There are endless possibilities with endless problems arising among them.
Something that everyone should understand is that helping/saving the environment
shouldn't mean banning the use of potentially harmful objects but rather using them
to our benefits in a more safe manner for the greater good of mankind.
