Hemlock Elementary School 400 Hemlock Street Vacaville, California 95688 (707) 453-6245 Jennifer Austin, Principal March 2, 2020 ‘To Whom It May Concern: {tis my pleasure to recommend Emily Brothers to any early childhood, special education teaching Position you may have. {have been Ms, Brothers’ administrator forthe past school year. Ms. Brothers has taught pre-school SCIL (structured class for intensive learning), whichis focused on imbedded supports and discrete trials to provide early intervention for students with autism. This has been Emily's frst year teaching, and I am sad to see her leave us. Emily is child centered teacher, supports and leads her para educator staf, and is an advocate for her students. Any school would be lucky to have her, she has a bright future as a teacher. Ms. Brothers keeps her students and their needs atthe center of every decision she makes in her classroom, She collets and uses data on her students’ behaviors and learning to design learning ‘opportunities and o support learning behaviors and language acquisition. Emily isa reflective teacher, she spend time daily reviewing how the day went, how student progress looked, and how student and sta interactions affected the day. She will then make adjustments to routines, procedures, staffing, and stations to improve the overall educational benefit of the students in her room. This constant cycle of reflection and change has created highly successful first year for Emily, who has learned and grown, ‘exponentially as a new teacher. Ms. Brothers leads her para educators with respect. She leads five paras whose jobs vary from 1:1 student support for severe self-injury behaviors to classroom paras. Emily meets with her team of paras once a ‘month, She uses these classroom meetings to discuss implementation of BIPs, student safety, progress on. ‘goals, stations/eenter routines, and staff scheduling. She also uses ths time to discuss concerns and provide feedback. In addition, when needed, she asks other specialist, such as speech, OT, and bbchaviorists to attend to provide training and support. Asa result, her class runs smoothly on a day to day basis, Her paras know what the expectation is for their work and meet it under Emily’s watchful eye. Emily knows itis her job to advocate for students. She takes this role seriously and will each out to specialists, families, myself, district coordinators, and the parent liaison as needed. She knows that it takes ‘team to help students in special education make steady progress toward goals and she works to communicate regularly with her team, Ms. Brothers’ depth of knowledge about each and every child in her class, and her regular communication with each child’s team has led to good steady progress in behavior, language and academic goal areas for her students It is without hesitation that I recommend Emily Brothers to your district and school. She will be an asset to any program and to the students and families who are lucky enough to have her as their child’s teacher.
