B2 Course: Unit 35 - To Be / Get Used To
Do you remember ‘Used to’ from the 1st trimester? Yes? No? Well, here’s a quick recap in case you
forgot!
Used to + infinitive
The used to form is used when we want to talk about things that were happening (regularly, many
times) in the past. These things do not happen any longer.
Examples:
I used to sing in a band.
She used to play tennis.
We used to have dinner all together on Sundays.
Why are we remembering this? Well, because there are other uses of ‘used to’. Are they exactly the
same? No! So, be careful.

Unit 35 - To be / Get used to
When you are getting used to something, you are becoming accustomed to the thing/situation. The
thing is not so strange for you now.
If you are used to something, it means you do not find the thing/situation weird at all.
Both of them – to be used to, to get used to – are followed by a noun, pronoun or gerund (the -ing
form of a verb).
