2. Class 2A has 36 students queuing up in a row. If there are 12 students in


front of Amy, how many student(s) is / are behind Amy?

So if 12 students are in front of Amy, then Amy is the 13 th student.

Therefore, there are 36 – 13 = 23 students behind Amy.

Follow-up question:

17 children form a column. There are 9 people in front of Amy. What is her position counting
from behind?

Amy’s position from behind is 8. Also, 17 – 9 = 8 students behind Amy.

3. According to the pattern shown below, how many is / are there in the
100th group?

Pattern: multiply the group number by itself

1st group – 1 = 1 x 1 3rd group – 9 = 3 x 3 100th group – 100 x 100 = 10 000

2nd group – 4 = 2 x 2 4th group – 16 = 4 x 4

4. Find the value of 13 × 1 + 13 × 2 + 13 × 3 + 13 × 4.


(13 × 1) + (13 × 2) + (13 × 3) + (13 × 4) = 13 + 26 + 39 + 52 = 130
(13) x (1 + 2 + 3 + 4) = 13 x 10 = 130

Follow up: (5 x 2) + (5 x 6) + (5 x 3) = 5 x (2 + 6 + 3) = 5 x 11 = 55

5. Now the light is off. Amy presses the light button 28 times. Can you guess
whether the light is on or off?

28 / 2 = 14 = doesn’t have any remainder = NO REMAINDER = choice 2 = OFF

Big and small squares.


Find the biggest rectangle: 4 x 3. Add the next value: (4 – 1) x (3 – 1) = 3 x 2
Next (3 – 1) x (2 – 1) = 2 x 1
For the large rectangle: (4 x 3) + (3 x 2) + (2 x 1) = 20 squares
Adding the one square outside the big rectangle: 20 + 1 = 21 squares

8. How many small squares are needed to make the figure a bigger square?

Square: 4 equal sides

The bigger square we will form is 5 x 5 = 25.

We have 14 squares in the figure.

Therefore, 25 – 14 = 11 small squares

Multiples = numbers which when divided by 11, it will not result to any remainder

45 numbers / 2 = 22 remainder 1 ; 22 x 2 = 44

22 odd numbers, 22 even numbers

41st = even; 42nd = odd; 43rd = even

44th number = odd number

45th number = even; Total number of even numbers : 22 + 1 = 23 even numbers
