Installing and Configuring IBM Case Manager 5.2 with FileNet P8 5.2.0 on single server: An in-depth guide for users to setup an IBM Case Management
environment using CMPIT 5.2.0 on a single server.

Introduction

The IBM Case Manager Platform Installation Tool provides a series of scripts that installs and
configures all of the supporting software and applications to create a complete FileNet P8 Platform and IBM
Case Manager environment. When the automatic installation and configuration are complete, you can begin
to use the IBM Case Manager applications. IBM Case Manager can either co-exist on the same system as the
IBM FileNet P8 or on a different system than IBM FileNet P8. Single system deployment can be
advantageous in many scenarios for example: for testing and Proof of Concept environments, a single server
installation help in a quick evaluation of the product against requirements. This tutorial addresses single
server deployment of the IBM FileNet P8 along with IBM Case Manager using Case Manager Platform
installation tool (CMPIT).

CMPIT 5.2 installs and configures the following pre-requisite software and IBM FileNet P8 system along
with IBM Case Manager 5.2.

 IBM WebSphere Application Server 8.5

 IBM Tivoli Directory Server 6.3
 IBM DB2 Database Server 9.7 FP5
 IBM Installation Manager 1.5.2

Preparing System:
The following are the platform specific checklists which needs to be checked prior to running CMPIT.

Ensure that the directories on the server have adequate free space. In addition to the 10 GB required for the
installed binary files, the installation process requires the following free space:

Operating system Required space by directory

AIX /opt: 20 GB
/tmp: 3 GB
/home: 2 GB
Linux /opt: 20 GB
Windows C:\: 20 GB

Windows:
 Ensure that no IBM FileNet P8 Platform components or supporting software applications are installed
on the server.
 Install the required Web Services Enhancements (WSE) 3.0 Runtime.
 Turn off Windows system/security auto updates before you begin the installation. Automatic updates
during the installation can cause the IBM Case Manager Platform Installation Tool to time out.
 Disable “User Account Control (UAC)” before running CMPIT.

 Review the Pre-installation summary and click Install to begin the installation. The installation
processes can take approximately two to three hours.

The installation processes can take approximately two to three hours.

Important: When the IBM Tivoli® Directory Server Instance Administration Tool interface is displayed
during the installation process, click the Close button in the tool window. Then, click Yes to confirm that
you want to exit the tool.

Re-run CMPIT Installation:

Depending on the type of error, after you correct the error, you can edit the cmpit.properties to re-run the
installer from where it left off

To re-run the installer from the script where it left off, copy the <installation_path> \install-
scripts\CMPIT.properties file over the original <cd-root>CMPIT.properties file, then restart the
CMPIT installation program.
Suppose CMPIT installation fails, then user should refer to cmpit520_install_stdout.txt (%TEMP%
directory) to find out the installation step that failed. Assuming that it failed at step 26, to restart
CMPIT again from step 26, update the property “PROCESSED_XX” of all steps 3 to 25 to YES &
steps 26 to 35 to NO in cmpit.properties as shown below.

environment using CMPIT 5.2.0 on a single server.

In the CMPIT.properties, do not update the “PROCESSED_01”(pwset) &

“PROCESSED_02”(updatehostname) status. The values must be set to NO before running the CMPIT

Troubleshooting
1. If errors occurred during the installation, review the following installation logs in the
<installation_path> directory for more information, and correct the error as appropriate:
1. cmpit520_install_stdout.txt (CMPIT’s main log - found in UNIX: /tmp, Windows: %TEMP%)
2. cmpit520_install_stderr.txt (found in UNIX: /tmp, Windows: %TEMP%
3. cmpit520_install_log.txt (found in /opt/IBM/cmpit C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\cmpit)

2. If CMPIT installer fails and exits while trying to install IBM Tivoli Directory Server and the install log
indicates "Installation cannot continue" message. This can be because the co-requisite software could
not be located, for example IBM Tivoli Directory Server cannot be installed without DB2. This is
considered to be a critical failure and a reason for exiting the installation completely. The reason for not
able to locate co-requisite software can vary, but the result is the same. Some of the reasons for such
failure are:

1. .zip file was not renamed properly.

2. Incorrect version of DB2 installer.
3. License file is missing.
4. Make sure download directory path does not have space in it.

In these cases, the installation exits prematurely, and the installation log is stored in a temporary
directory and not in the installation path. On Windows systems, the installation log file is usually stored in
%TEMP% directory. On AIX, Linux, Solaris, and HP-UX systems, the installation log file is stored in the
/tmp directory.

3. DB2 installation fails if DB2 account passwords exceed the maximum permitted limit for the passwords.

The following table describes the DB2 account password limits:

Operating System DB2 password length limits

Windows DB2 administrative user password (default user

name: db2admin): 14 characters

UNIX DB2 administrative user (default user name:
dasusr1): 8 characters
DB2 instance user (default user name: db2inst1): 8
characters
DB2 fenced user (default user name: db2fenc1): 8
characters

4. DB2 install fails on Windows Vista and higher, with error number -2079391743, along with an access
denied error.
Resolution: Launch the install with the "Run as Administrator" option.

5. When you encounter a DB2 installation failure. Check the db2setup.log file for the error message
specified to identify the nature of your error.

6. If errors such as :
“echo ERROR: DB2 installation failed!”
“echo ERROR: db2licm not found!”
are encountered then a wrong DB2 fix pack or a DB2 flavor other than “SERVER” might have been
downloaded . In this case you can uninstall partially installed TDS to an earlier state and continue
with CMPIT installation once you have the needed DB2 9.7 FP5 “SERVER” package on the system.

7. Workplace XT log-in issues : Even after the successful completion of CMPIT you may see errors during
log-in into Workplace XT. Please follow this tech-note to workaround this error for Workplace XT :
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27023814
8. For all platforms follow this link : http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27039397 to avoid
encountering “out of memory error” during the deployment of IBM Content Platform Engine or IBM
Content Navigator on IBM Websphere Application Server.
9. You may encounter "java.lang.NoSuchMethodError" during the creation of Case History Store. Follow
below steps to resolve this issue
1. Open ICN profile (NexusConfig) with ICN Config & deployment tool.
2. Run following task:
1. Update the FileNet P8 Client Connector Files
2. Build the Web Application
3. Deploy the Web Application
3. Restart WebSphere Application Server.
10. The Case Manager Platform Installation Tool does not configure Business Rules by default, which
limits many of the features available in Case Manager.

To manually configure the Business Rules:

1. Start the Case Manager Configuration Tool:
▪ Windows: Click Start Menu -> Programs -> IBM Case Manager -> Case Manager
Configuration Tool
▪ AIX and Linux: Open /opt/IBM/CaseManagement/configure/configmgr
2. Open the deployicm.cgfp configuration tool profile located in the following directory:
<cmpit installation directory>/install-scripts/profiles/DeployICM/
