Gujarat.Amul induces India’s White Revolution, which made the country the world's largest producer of milk and milk
products. The brand name “AMUL” comes from the Sanskrit word “Amulya”. It brand name managed by an apex cooperative

Milk producers in Gujarat. White Revolution was spearheaded by Tribhuvandas Patel under the guidence of Sardar Patel.
Tribhuvandas became the founding chairman of the organization and led it until his death. He hired Dr. Verghese Kurien three
years after the White Revolution. He convinced Dr. Kurien to stay and help with the mission. Amul Grew from strength to
strength thanks to the inspired leadership of Tribhuvandas Patel, the founder Chairman and the committed Professionalism
of Dr. Verghese Kurien, who was entrusted the task of running the dairy from 1950. The Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur
Shastri decided that the same approach should become the basis of the National Dairy Development of policy. He understood
that the success of Amul could be attributed to four important factors. The farmer owned the dairy, their elected
representatives managed the village societies and the district union, they employed professionals to operate the dairy and
manage its business. Most importantly, the co-operatives were sensitive to the need of farmers and responsive to their
demands. Under the local farmer leader Tribhuvandas K. Patel leadership Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel approached unfair trade
practices, the farmers of Kaira. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel advises them to from cooperative and supply milk directly to the
Bombay. He send Morarji Desai to organize the farmers. In 1946 farmers of local area going to strike agents to setting up of
the cooperative to collect and process milk. At his instance in 1956 the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) was set up
with the basic objective of replicating the Amul model. Dr. Kurien was chosen to head the institution as its Chairmen and
asked to replicate this model throughout the country. Kurien, Founder of the GCMMF for more than 30 years (1973-2006), is
credited with the success of Amul’s Marketing. Amul became world’s largest food brand in Indian and has ventured into the
market overseas with 60 countries. 1. Three Tier Model - The Anand Pattern: It has succeeded largely because the Model
involves people in their own development and because of their interest are safe in their own hands. The Anand Model Co-
operatives have progressively eliminated middlemen, bringing the producer in direct contact with consumer. The Anand
Pattern succeeded because it gave a fair price to the farmer and high quality milk and milk products to the consumer. What
should have been middleman’s profits in the earlier system got absorbed into development projects for primary producer or
lower cost for the consumer. 1. Primary Village Co-operative Society (The First Tier) : An Anand Pattern village dairy
cooperative member by buying a share and committing to sell milk only to the society. Each Dairy Cooperative Society (DCS)
has a milk collection center where members take milk every day. Each member's milk is tested for quality with payments
based on the percentage of fat and Solids Not Fat (SNF). This also acts as a vital link for various productivity enhancement and
development programmers of farmers. 2. District Union (The Second Tier): A District Cooperative Union of Milk Producers’ is
owned by dairy cooperative societies. The Union buys all the milk from the dairy cooperative society, then processes and
markets fluid milk and products. Union also provides a range of inputs and services to village co-operative societies and their
members: feed, veterinary care, artificial insemination to sustain the growth of milk production and the cooperatives'
