Day 2
TITLE: Differentiating Political Science, Anthropology, Sociology
Learning Objective: Discuss the nature, goals, and perspectives in/of anthropology, sociology and political science
- Defining the different disciplines under UCSP
- Understanding the disciplines in studying society and culture
What do you see whenever you look at our flag? If we separate each element of our flag, everybody knows it represents differently from one another.
Red means patriotism and valor, blue for peace, truth, and justice and so on… (http://nhcp.gov.ph/the-philippine-flag-symbol-of-our-sovereignty-and-
solidarity)
But when we put together these figures, we then understand that these symbols create a different kind of image for us Filipinos. It then becomes a
symbol of our identity, an understanding of our nationality, and a beacon of our roots and our pride as a Filipino.
It’s the same with UCSP, we will be tackling and using different disciplines under social sciences to understand the topics about the self, and address
the issues concerning society, nations, and the world. Each discipline is different from each other and has their own field of study and expertise that
describes certain phenomena, however they interdependent to better comprehend and appreciate the concepts of human, society, and nation.
For today’s lesson we will try to discover what are the different social science disciplines we will be encountering for this subject and try to identify
and associate them based on their area of study.

Activity 3:
Now that we have defined and very well understood the area of study of each discipline. Let’s try to differentiate each of them from one another.
Below is a modified Venn Diagram, write three topics (subjects, matters, issues) that can be studied under the specific discipline. In the middle, write
topics that can apply the three disciplines all together.
