Math 10 PreIB E-Assignment # 2 Name: ____________________

Due Sunday, April 26, 2020 (by 11:59 PM)

Show your work for all questions and circle your answer(s). ALL answers must be given in EXACT form.

1. A right-angled triangle has its hypotenuse one centimeter more than twice the length of the shortest side, while the
other side is 7 cm longer than the shortest side. Sketch a properly labelled diagram and then set up and solve a
quadratic equation to determine the length of each sides. (2 pts)

2. Two positive integers have a difference of 8 and a product of 33. Set up and solve a quadratic equation to determine
these numbers. (2 pts)

3. Graph each of the following. Accuracy is important. Thus, this should be done on graph paper (or on the grids
provided here) so that the five “important points” (vertex, and 2 on each “arm”) are accurately drawn. (4 pts)

a) y = (x + 5)2 − 2 2
b) y =− 2(x − 1) + 9
4. Given the quadratic function: y =− x2 − 2x + 15 (6 pts)
a) State the y-intercept

b) Algebraically solve for the x-intercepts. You must do this algebraically to earn points.

c) Sketch the graph by plotting the intercepts. (just the intercepts and the
curve are needed)

d) Algebraically determine the coordinates of the vertex. Label it on your

graph.

5. State the equation of each graph. (4 pts)
