Educational Artifact: Classroom Diagram

My Lab in 2-D”Classroom Reflection”

This activity really took me out of my comfort zone at first, but as I was shaping

and reshaping and then totally wiping the canvas clean...I finally found my groove.

Surprisingly Microsoft PowerPoint is pretty user friendly and most tools can be navigated

quickly. As a Google school it has been at least a few years since I’ve used Microsoft

tools. I only now really use Powerpoint and the rest of the suite if I am transferring an

old lecture or document over to a Google Slide/Doc. As a teacher a classroom schematic

like this can be a great resource and is a good way to plan out future seating

arrangements, prepare for individualized groups and arrange for substitutes. NETS

Standards include: 3 Knowledge Constructor, 4 Innovative Designer and 6 Creative

Communicator. It is a very detailed project and can be utilized to teach a variety of skills

in art, math and other content areas depending on the theme. I could see using this to

teach geometrical concepts, create a vision board for mindset, illustrate a political ad or

slogan and to show a setting or imagery from any literary work. Also, a variety of

intelligences such as visual, spatial and if they were to take a step further and build

kinesthetic are incorporated in this lesson.

In my classroom I would use this as a lab safety assignment in the beginning of the

year. A great way to get the ball rolling early and allow for students to practice with all

the shape tools. Students would draw the science lab, label tools and safety gear to

reinforce how to stay safe in the lab. They could add in specific safety labels such as the

safety shower, eye wash stations, goggles, fire hydrant and blanket. At first these

specific shapes may take some finesse. It was a struggle for me in the beginning to get

started, but I just thought about the furniture first . Then I looked over all the shapes

and made a key in my mind of what would be best suited for different parts of my

classroom. Once you insert, fill, copy, paste, rotate, reshape and then finally repeat, your

vision comes to life before you know it.
