METHOD OF STATEMENT
1.0 INTRODUCTION

Polyurethane rigid foam is characterizing by a close cell content of 90% or higher

and good water proof performance, which can effectively block the penetration of
water vapor to play PU rigid foam excellent thermal insulation performance and
ensure the normal shelf life of insulation layer. In the field of construction,
polyurethane rigid foam is one kind of water proof and insulation integrative
product.

Among all insulation material, PU can provide lowest K-factor, only with
0.017~0.023w/m.k (25°C), almost same level as refrigerator, it is best choice for
insulation and energy saving.

Material K—factor (w/m.k)

Polyurethane (PU) 0.017-0.023
XPS 0.030
EPS 0.040
Rock Wool 0.043
Glass Fiber 0.042
Cork 0.045
Wood 0.065
Brick 0.100

In Malaysia, Polyurethane foam is insulation used as thermal insulation to prevent

condensation from occurs. Usually used for rooms running air conditioning for
24hours.

4.0 PREPARATION WORK PRIOR TO SPRAYING PU FOAM
a) All Chemicals, Polyol and Iso, shall be properly stored at the storage
area inside the construction area. The storage area provided shall be
inside the building and NOT exposed to sun or rain.

b) The Polyol chemical is pre-blended with blowing agent by the

manufacturer before delivery to side.
c) After the above preparation work, the target area is checked to
ensure that it is sufficiently clean and dry before one layer of
bituminous vapor barrier is sprayed to the intended concrete surface.
d) All equipment and tools are to be cleaned daily after use and are also
properly stored at side.
e) Construction drawing of floor drawing marking for 24hrs A/C should
be given by contractor to ensure correct location before spray PU
foam
f) Request for Inspection (RFI) should be filled up before start works.
RFI should be filled up for every department.
g) Joint inspection should be conduct properly to ensure site is ready
for PU spray.
h) For spraying PU foam at ceiling/soffit, all hangers and suspended rod
should be installed 1st to avoid repairing.

i) Prior to spray Polyurethane Foam & Bituminous Compound at soffit

of slab, all existing M&E services will be covered using old
newspaper and plastic sheet.
j) Prior to Inject Polyurethane Foam into cavity wall, both side of wall
should be smooth plastering to avoid crack at wall.
4.0 SPRAY A LAYER OF BITUMEN AS VAPOUR BARRIER ONTO SOFFIT SLAB AND
BEAMS

a) Spraying the Bituminous compound will only proceed after the above
instruction has been fulfilled
b) A bituminous compound will be spraying as a vapor barrier prior to PU
application.
c) The spray equipment is checked to ensure that the nozzles are cleaned.
d) To check and to ensure the specific area is as marked in the drawing.
e) To make sure that the surface areas which are needed to spray are dry
and free from debris. Wall surface should be evenly plastered.
f) The bituminous compound is mixed with some water at 1:2 ratios to enable
spraying.
g) The bituminous mixture is sprayed onto the surface. One layer of
bituminous compound is sufficient as a vapor barrier application.
h) The vapor barrier is allowed to dry 12hours before spray PU foam.
4.0 SPRAY “EXFOAM” RIGID PU FOAM AT SOFFIT OF SLAB & BEAMS
PU Thickness : 50mm , 25mm (Side of Beams)
PU Density : 35 to 40kg/m3
a) Approval of spray foam material shall be obtained from the consultant.
Spray foam shall only proceed once the approval from the consultant is
obtained.
b) The spray foam equipment is checked to ensure that the nozzles are
cleaned and that the spray profile is even.
c) Make sure that the surface is dry before spray PU foam.
d) PU will be spraying layer by layer until the desired thickness 50mm attained.
During spray, our sprayer will be check PU thickness by using nails which
is length has been marking 25/50mm.
e) Due to sensitivity of density test equipment, PU density will be check using
manual calculation by taken PU weight and divided by volume. Our
materials already blend to achieved 35-40kg/m3 as stated in Technical
Safety Data Sheet.
f) In order to achieve the desired evenness, the sprayer desired competently
spray so that the mixture do not run-off or drip. Theoretically, any desired
thickness of insulation foam can be obtained by repeated application of
layer-by-layer spraying.
g) Random sample will be collected for k-value testing
5.0 INJECT “EXFOAM” RIGID PU FOAM AT BRICK WALL

PU Thickness : 25 mm / 30 mm
PU Density : 35kg/m3 (Free rise density)
a) Cavity wall should be constructing 1st before injection of PU Foam.
b) For clay brickwall Internal and external surface should be plastering
before PU injection, skim coat on block wall should be done after PU
Injection.
c) By using drill, Injection holes size ½” should be made for every 3ft to
4ft.
d) Next steps involved injection of PU foam step by steps from bottom
up to the top. PU slowly will infill cavity wall and produce some heat.
e) When PU foam full inside cavity wall, PU will overflow out of the wall.
f) Step (d) repeated until full height wall infill with PU foam
g) Inspection of thickness and density are not applicable for this
injection method.
h) Injection hole will be sealed using cement mortar same as
plastering.
6.0 RECTIFICATION WORKS
a) 1st inspection of defect will be done by our site supervisor, photo
should be taken as a proof and number of holes will be counting and
marking on drawing.
b) RFI form will be submitted with checklist for consultant and contractor
to approve and verify defect before we precede repairing works.
c) The spray foam equipment is checked to ensure that the nozzles are
cleaned and that the spray profile is even.
d) Next step is spraying PU foam into defect area by using low pressure
machine to maintain the same density as per earlier.
e) Inspection of work done after rectification works.

7.0 EXTENSION OF PU FOAM

“requirement shall be extended to the adjoining floor up to 3 meters

away.”

8.0 INSPECTION PU THICKNESS

During spray PU foam, our sprayer will be checked randomly by using nail.
Nail already marking for desired thickness either 25mm or 50mm.
a) Nail already set for desired b) If desired thickness achieved, nail will go
thickness. into PU.

8.0 QAQC
All inspection and test activities shall be undertaken in accordance with
Technical Specification requirements. We will conduct a few testing’s at
SIRIM QAS International & Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB). Below is
