Lesson 3 – Concept of Disaster Risk Reduction and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management

Assessment

What are the disaster risks faced by the people in Brgy. Delikado?

What do you think should be the goals of the community?

What strategies can be adopted to achieve these goals?

Disaster risks faced by the people in the Brgy.

Community goals

Strategies to meet the goals

Excessive flooding

Prevent the brgy. to submerge because of the flood.

The officials should agree on gutter instalments on the house roofs and streets with pipes that lead away
from the community to lessen the flood during heavy rainfalls. And the river should have a high gutter
instalment as well in order for it to not reach the community when it overflows.

Fire

Lessen the fire threats that occur.

It is stated in the case that the houses in the community are made of combustible materials and the area
is dense and narrow making it much easier for fire to spread and cause more damage to both property
and residents. Their homes should consist of more fire resistant materials and devices to be used in case
of an emergency. Some of the families should relocate to a wider space in order for the fire fighters to
gain an easy access to the area and prevent the fire from rapidly spreading.
