1. Difficult Concepts (What concepts did you find difficult to understand?)


i. The way the Filipinos been through in order to achieve independence.
ii. The caricature meanings or symbolism during the American era
iii. General Wood’s actions that made his image hated by the Filipinos
iv. The target or the goal of Corazon C. Aquino’s Speech before United States congress

2. Insights (What new insights or learnings did you gain in discussion/ activity?)

i. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought the act of independence
happened through conflict or war only. However, reading the article/understanding the lesson,
I now think/realize the Filipinos been through to have a revolution spark and a lot of strategies
were occurred, wherein this approach feels like took a long time that cause many deaths to the
Filipinos, although with their deaths, it is for the goal to have the freedom of the country.
ii. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought the drawings in the caricature
are just direct or mocking or displaying a single point about a certain politics. However,
reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize _that the caricatures during
American era contain more meaning than a single one, wherein each drawing contains deeper
meanings that can be seen at first, it has to be seen longer in order to see what it truly means.
iii. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought General Wood is an evil person
that cause crimes to the country since the grievances from the Filipinos However, reading the
article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize that even with the expectations of the
Filipinos that Wood is part of the liberation of Cuba, the Filipinos were expecting the same
spirit of cooperation but in reality it turned out that there was a train of usurpation and
arbitrary acts which then resulted into autonomy and destruction of our constitutional system.
iv. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that her speech to United States
Congress was regarding about her husband doing for the country and his suffering. However,
reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize that her speech includes in to
the focus to revitalize and rejuvenate the sagging economy of the Philippines by borrowing
from the US.

explanations about?)
i. Why are their betrayals during the revolution when the Filipinos should work together in
obtaining the freedom of our country? Specifically, Emilio Aguinaldo letting Bonifacio
die.
ii. Why are the creations of caricatures needed regarding showing the political issues of the
country, when portraying the facts could have been better?
iii. Who is Governor Wood really, did he really help the Philippines or was he just plain terror
that made us have grievances to him?
iv. What is happening to Philippines economy when Corazon Aquino tell her speech before
the US Congress?
