Synopsis
TOPIC 1: THE PORT AND ARCHITECTURE
Introduction
India has the rare scenario of a large coastline - surrounded by sea on three sides. 95 % of
international trade is done through the marine industry. In the last 20 years, Foreign
investment of about 1.64 billion US dollars in the same has been seen. Ships travelling from
East Asia to America, Europe to Africa passes through the Indian Terrestrial waters. The
handling capacity of major ports is comparatively less than the actual number of ships(cargo)
leading to traffic, waiting and delays in business deals. Also, leading to minor mismanagement
on ports. Thus, government are taking steps to develop these ports and increase its ship
handling capacity.
“12 Major Ports were identified under Sagarmala project, for cargo handling till 2035. The
objective of this project is to promote port-led development and to provide infrastructure to
quickly transport goods to and from ports, with higher efficiency and at lower cost.”
Aim
To create a Port hub which acts as a landmark of Marine coast of the country internationally,
setting easy management and integrated facilities in port. Thus improvising trade by optimum
utilization of our Indian Coastline.
Objectives
● To understand the working of Port.
● To have private-public synergetic services and trade under one roof.
● Necessary list of requirements and integrated facilities required in The port centre.
● To know the connection with other ports and helpful future scope of development of
the port.
Methodology
● To understand the working of Port.
- Interaction with people working on port.

Scope
● Government initiatives like Sagarmala and NMDP (National Marine Development
Programme) are taken to develop the coast.
● It focuses only on the centre for the administration and facilities purpose only.
● The users of hub will depend on the Usage of port (Example: It can only be for tourist
visitors or only the seafarers where the port is used for import and export of goods)
● Traffic Management is restricted to the hub and its surrounding, not the shipping traffic
routes of the whole port.
Hypothesis
Inspite of having 12 substantial major port and 200 Non-Major Ports on the swath of
coastline, Ports are unable to picturesque unlike other international ports. Thus, remain
identified or unfamous.

Introduction
Hospitality and tourism industry plays a large part in India’s Economy. Socio-cultural history, rich
heritage, myriad landscape lead to millions of tourists across the country. Thus, some parts of
the country remain unexplored. The competence of such areas can help the people of the
region for their livelihood and boost the Indian economy through the tourism sector.
Aim
To increase the tourism of a region having a strong social-cultural background which is
neglected thus uplifting the economic condition of locals.
Objectives
● To create a centre having new facet to tourism with leisure as well as lull the mind with
nature with location having various sight seeing in its vicinity.
● Identify the site potential.
● Also understanding the scope of tourism of a region.

Scope
● Not to enhance the tourist spots, just the centre which will act as a halt or starting point
for their journey.
● Design Intervention will focus on leisure and nature-based activities.
● Forms a Cross-cultural bridge between the undeveloped and developing parts of the
country.
Limitations
Intermingling with different people through ecotourism may cause a shift in the mindset of the
local community. They may not be able to preserve their culture but borrow unwanted traits
through this mixing.
Fall in commercial prey and equal profit sharing government policies etc. may affect the
income of locals.
Methodology
● To understand the socio-cultural background and potential of the region. ( Aspects like
population, occupation, income, Existing outside visitors per year to be analyzed)
● To do Case studies of such regions which later boosted as a tourist spot (Example:
Kutch)
● Allied activity or workshop along with the stay in centre. (Example: Agro-industry, Local
art workshops )
● Case studies of how to combine leisure and mindfulness activities in one roof.

TOPIC 3: ‘SUSTAINABILITY CENTRE - A FOUNDATION FOR SMART CITY’
The need of being self-sustained and use of renewable energy is envisaged in these years. The
aim of the centre is pedagogy about the need for sustainable practice in real life in an
economic way.
The project will act as an incubation centre for sustainable product and research
innovation. Activities like major National and International Conferences, Hands-on Activities
for School Going kids, festivals, Workshops can be done here. Vertical Farming is one such
possibility at the centre.
The Centre can be the first step to bring in sustainable practice in an urban area and
create a utopian sustainable society.
