Read each text carefully and complete the proposed activities and exercises to apply the
reading comprehension strategies discussed in the learning material. The strategies to be
applied are:
1. Using an English dictionary for improving reading
2. Identifying implied main ideas
3. Finding arguments in your reading
4. Making outlines of readings
5. Finding hypothesis, explanations and conclusions in readings
Insight
Noun / ɪnsaɪt /
Insightful (adjective)
Insightfully (adverb)
If you gain insight or an insight into a complex situation or
problem, you can understand that situation or problem very
well.
Process maps provide insight into a process
That movie gave us insights into what a slave’s
life was like in the past.
1.1. Bottlenecks:
Noun.
delay the process.
Bottleneck is an expression that is used to indicate that something is
obstructing a process or path in the specific document refers to a process
which can be improved.
Process mapping will identify bottlenecks.
in the inventory process we have found a bottleneck since it does not have a
system that is reliable and agile to consult the information.

They help to define process boundaries.
With this development, no boundaries will be set for developers, letting their
imagination run wild to obtain a better result.
1.3. Ownership:

1.4. Brainstorm:
noun.
Group of ideas.
it is a group of ideas that solve a problem or concern, in the case of reading it
generates brainstorming or one great idea.
help teams brainstorm ideas for process improvement.
when there is brainstorming in a development group the results are more
efficient and agile.
1.5. Speed Up:

Linux has made an enormous impact on the server market, but the same can't be said for
the desktop market — and for good reason. Despite making big steps in the last several
years, it's still tricky for the uninitiated to use, and the user interfaces of the various
distributions remain far inferior to those of Windows or Mac OS X.
While Linux very well may be technically superior to these proprietary operating systems,
its weaknesses mean that most users will find it more difficult and less appealing to work
with. That means lower productivity, which will likely cost far more than purchasing a
proprietary operating system with which your staff is familiar (Rubens, 2017).
The topic is because using Windows or Mac operating systems on desktop versions are
better than Linux based desktop systems.
2.2. What is the implied main idea being referred to in the reading passage?
Indicates what is the difficulty that users of Linux desktop present for its use.
2.3. What details can you find in the reading that support your proposed implied
main idea?
That the Linux desktop operating system is not so friendly to users who start computing.
Read the following excerpt from an article about a study conducted on the impact of
Human Resource information system policies on privacy (Lukaszewski, K., Stone, D., &
Johnson, R., 2016), and identify the arguments against and for implementing these types
of information systems. In order to find the arguments, complete the following steps:
▪ Identify what subject is the reading passage talking about.
▪ Find the arguments for implementing Human Resources information systems.
Remember that you should look for all the reasons or explanations the author of
the passage provides to express that using these information systems at
organizations is something good.
▪ Find the arguments against implementing Human Resources information
systems. Search for those details the author introduces in the reading passage to
convince you that implementing these information systems is not good.
▪ Take a stand for or against the topic. Express whether you support or oppose the
implementation of Human Resources information systems and provide your own
arguments.
The reason why the use of privacy human resources information systems is good. It is
indicated which are the advantages and disadvantages of the use of these, as well as
which is the perception that is had in front of this type of technologies.
3.2. What arguments for and against HRIS implementation are introduced in the
reading passage?
3.3. What is your opinion regarding the subject discussed in the reading passage?
Are you against or do you support the implementation of HRIS?

I look at it from two points of view, I consider that it is good to use an HRIS because it
will greatly optimize the processes carried out by the areas of human talent but with the
responsibility it gives companies to see our confidential information, they should
reinforce their computer security systems and the permissions that high command will
have for the display of this information.
sentence, “John told Luca he shouldn’t do that again.” In this case, you can’t really tell
whether “he” refers to John or Luca. Disambiguating words with many meanings, such as
considering whether the word mouse in a phrase refers to an animal or a computer device,
can prove difficult. Obviously, the difficulty in all these problems arises because of the
context.
As humans, we can easily resolve ambiguity by examining the text for hints about
elements like place and time that express the details of the conversation (such as
understanding what happened between John and Luca, or whether the conversation is
about a computer when mentioning the mouse). Relying on additional information for
understanding is part of the human experience. This sort of analysis is somewhat difficult
for computers.
Moreover, if the task requires critical contextual knowledge or demands that the listener
resort to common sense and general expertise, the task becomes daunting. Simply put,
NLP still has a lot of ground to cover in order to discover how to extract meaningful
summaries from text effectively or how to complete missing information from text
(dummies, 2017).
Introduction
The document refers to Natural Language Processing (NLP) which indicates how
communication occurs between computers and humans, explains what is easier
for humans to enter between dialectical ambiguities and for computers is more
complex to "understand", since everything depends on the context in which
communication is being provided, is influential in this sense of dialect, slang,
terms that are understood on a cultural level, and finally there are also the
feelings with which say a word or sentence.
Computers are lacking in this type of capabilities, although progress has been
made with artificial intelligence implementations in these types of attributes that
are lacking in computers, improving this type of interaction.
The advances that have been made in this field of artificial intelligence have
successfully brought things like the detection of spam in our emails, the
identification of sentences and if they contain verbs or nouns, the identification of
names of people or companies.

Subpoints
The lack of computers to properly interpret a word based on the context or the
feeling given to it
Subpoints
Human beings can easily resolve an ambiguity by examining the text for elements that
refer to a space, place or time.
Subpoints
The human easily analyzes information depending on the context of the statement.
Compression is trusted because of human experience.
Activities where common sense is required and human experience becomes "daunting"
for artificial intelligence.
Several improvements and refinements are still required for artificial intelligence.
IT creates new opportunities for innovation in products and services. Services which used
to be delivered in person can now be delivered over networks. Among the key levers are:
✓ resequencing: including parallel processing of data-bases
but knowing how best to use the power of IT for researching sources, accessing
information, connecting to experts, communicating ideas and results, and packaging the
knowledge (asset) for reuse. One aspect of this is the need for hybrid managers - people
who are competent at both their discipline and IT.
The Workplace
The way in which IT diminishes the effect of distance means that it creates a variety of
options for reorganizing the workplace. At a basic level, it can provide more flexibility in the
office, allowing desk sharing and a degree of location independence within a building (this
will develop as CTI (Computer Telephony Integration) and wireless PCs become more
firmly established. At another level, it permits the dispersion of work teams, thus saving
costs of relocation and travel. It has also created the mobile professional and allows
people to work effectively from home (Skyrme, 2017).
The topic discussed is how the different corporate areas are affected and how they are
affected, indicating the advantages that they have with the techniques, however, just as
it has its advantages with the implementations of technologies, it also imposes the
change of some rules or parameters that facilitate the management from the TI
approach.
The author tries to prove that the implementations of technological advances benefit the
different areas of the companies, shows what are their advantages and in some their
disadvantages of implementing technological services.
5.3. What arguments, examples, details or explanations the author uses to support
his idea or hypothesis?
The author discriminates each of the main objectives and in turn discriminates and
argues each of them, giving the reader a more centralized approach to his ideas, as
reflected in the benefit for each objective.
