NRHM SCAM

INTRODUCTION:-

In Uttar Pradesh NRHM scam ( an alleged corruption scandal ) took place in which
top politicians did a corruption of Rs 100 billion from the National rural health
mission.

WHAT’S THE SCAM ALL ABOUT ? :-

NRHM or National Rural Health Mission is a central govt. Program which are meant to improve
health care delivery in the rural areas. NRHM was launched by govt of india in the year 2005. It
aims to provide affordable quality health care to the rural population specially to the vulnerable
groups a wide range of determinants of health such as water, sanitation, education, nutrition,
social and gender equality.

U.P NRHM scam is a corruption scandal of India in which the top politician of India as well as
the bureaucrats were involved in this NRHM scam. The leaders were the top leaders of the
Bahujan Samaj party . In NRHM scam is the scam in which where several murders were done to
cover up the whole scam. The murder of two CMDs or the chief medical were also done there to
cover up the whole scam. CMD is the highest rank officer in the district. They were murdered in
daylight in the front of their houses.

In the year 2012 the PM Manmohan singh himself accused Mayawati govt. For misusing the
NRHM funds. Many of the minister resigned from their post. Director of Health Department
also commits sucide on Jan 2018.

COMPANY/PERSON’S INVOLVED ?:-

CBI filed a charge sheet on 3rd April 2012 against the Person’s that are involved in the NHRM
Scam are:-

PK Jain ( former general manger of design and construction services ), Subhash Chaudhary
( project manager ), Kataar Singh ( resident engineer ), BN Ram ( project engineer ), JK Singh
( Accountant ), Naresh Grover and RK Singh ( managing director of a private firm ) .

These are the peoples who are accused in the involvement in the NHRM SCAM and they caused
a loss of total 54.6 million Rs.

CBI again filed another charge sheet on 4th of April 2012 against these person’s:-

SP Ram ( former U.P Director general of family welfare ), Abhay Kumar Bajpai ( former MD of
U.P small Industries corporation ), Sanjeev Kumar ( area Manager ) and Saurabh Jain ( owner of
a private firm )

These peoples caused a loss of total 15 million Rs.

CBI again filed charge sheet on the very next day on these person’s :-

GK Batra ( MD of U.P public sector undertaking Shreeton India Limited ), Virendra Goel
( owner of Axis marketing ) and Neeraj Upadhyaya ( owner of Radheshyam Enterprises ).

These peoples caused a loss of total 2.78 Crore Rs.

HOW IT IS IDENTIFIED ?

NRHM scam in corruption scandal that happened in Uttar Pradesh in which politicians accused
in this scandal were alleged to have siphoned off a huge amount of 100 billion from National
Rural Health Mission a programme initiated by central government to improve the health care
service in rural area. This amount was enough to feed around 1000 people for at least next 300
years.

It was also found that around five people were murdered in covering up such a huge amount.
Several former ministers of then ruling party, Bahujan Samaj Party has been investigated by
central bureau of investigation. In Feb 2012, Prime Minister Manmohan singh himself accused
the Mayawati Government for misusing NRHM fund. This programme was initiated so that the
maternal mortality rate in Uttar Pradesh can be improved.

This case came into highlight when two top health functionaries were murdered who were under
the cadre of chief medical officer. Under this scandal there was FIR against 17 healthcare
officials.
