Siemeca™ AMR

PC Radio Module Set WTZ.RM

The PC radio module set is a versatile tool for planning, commissioning and
readout of Siemeca™ AMR systems.

Use

The WTZ.RM radio module set is a component of the Siemeca™ AMR system used for
wireless remote readout of metering devices. The scope of delivery includes the PC
radio module itself, the WHE26.DEMO test transmitter, the ACT26 commissioning and
readout software, and the USB connecting cable. The module set is used for the follow-
ing tasks:
• Planning Siemeca™ AMR systems and testing radio transmission conditions in
buildings
• Supervising the commissioning of Siemeca™ AMR systems
• Fault diagnosis and administration of Siemeca™ AMR systems
• Wireless readout

Functions

The PC radio module has a transmitter and a receiver, 2 operating buttons and a dis-
play.

The PC radio module consists of the follow-

ing components:

• Transmitter and receiver operating

at 868 MHz to provide communica-
tion with Siemeca™ AMR systems
on/off CPU
• USB interface for connecting the
memory PC radio module to a PC
hold • 2 operating buttons and a display
that allow the PC radio module to
be used for field strength meas-
receiver
urements
transmitter • In standalone mode, the module is
powered by 2 batteries type AA;
when connected to the USB port of
a PC, power is supplied via the PC
2 x AA USB • The on/off button is used for swit-
(1,5 V) interface ching the PC radio module on or
off; to avoid incorrect operation, the
button must be pressed for at least
least 2 seconds
• When pressing the hold button, additional information about signal and noise
levels of the received signal will be displayed
• In addition to 8 digits, the display shows 4 pairs of bars above and below the
digits, and 3 arrows that are used to indicate “Receive ready“, an existing USB
connection and a battery warning

Operating modes and operation

The WTZ.RM set contains the hardware and software required to perform 3 different
functions:

Measurement of Using the WHE26.DEMO manual transmitter, radio transmission conditions in buildings
field strength can be checked. During the planning phase, it is also possible to verify whether reliable
connections between the individual metering devices and the network nodes or among
the network nodes can be established. The manual transmitter uses 4 operating modes
that can be selected with the button on the front of the device:

Transmitter switched off. This is the state that will automatically be as-
sumed after 1 hour of transmission
Sending installation telegrams

Sending data telegrams

Sending statistics telegrams

The selected telegrams are sent 2 times a minute. For measuring the field strength, it is
recommended to use program type AdatH . To make other tests in existing radio trans-
mission installations, it may be practical however to use a specific type of telegram.

To test the radio transmission conditions in a building, the manual transmitter should be
placed in the most unfavorable spot. Using the PC radio module, the field strength can
then be estimated at the end of the path. The display of the module delivers the infor-
mation required for that purpose.

No telegrams received. The bars indicate the current noise or inter-

ference level.
Telegram from a metering device received. The display shows the
identification number of the sending device. The number of bars is an
indication of the field strength.
Indication of the relative reception level (3 digits after the “r“) and of
the relative noise level (3 digits after the “n“).
Display of the network number and address of a network node. Ap-
pears only when working Siemeca™ AMR network nodes are already
nearby. The radio connection can be checked.

When a telegram is received, the display shows the identification number of the trans-
mitter and a number of bars above and below the digits. The bars are used to assess
USB Rx the quality of radio transmission. A table on the front of the PC radio module facilitates
estimation of the field strength with 2 different types of transmitters: Metering devices or
network nodes. When using the manual transmitter, only the left column applies.

The transmitter identification number is displayed for 2 seconds. When the hold button
is pressed during that period of time, the device will be retained on the display. As long
as the button is kept depressed, the display will show additional information about the
relative reception and noise or interference level. The minimum values for this informa-
tion are 0, the maximum 255. To ensure reliable communication, the reception level
must be significantly higher than the noise or interference level.

Supervision of When using the PC radio module for monitoring the installation of Siemeca™ AMR
installation components, the ACT26 software package must be installed on a PC. In that case, the
radio module is to be connected to the USB port of the PC using the cable supplied
with the module. After starting up the software, the display of the radio module will

show

The radio module will then record the installation procedure on the screen so that the
installer will obtain a complete overview of the plant.

Local wireless readout With a PC, the ACT26 software and a PC radio module, Siemeca™ AMR plants can be
read out within the range of a network node.
