I was the first United States Secretary of the Treasury, a Founding Father, economist, and
political philosopher. A right wing to General George Washington during the American
Revolutionary War, I was a leader of American nationalists calling for a new Constitution; I
was one of America's first constitutional lawyers, and wrote most of the Federalist Papers, a
primary source for Constitutional interpretation. I was the primary author of the economic
policies of the George Washington Administration, especially the assumption of state debts
by the Federal government, the establishment of a national bank, a system of tariffs, and
restoration of friendly trade relations with Britain. My strong-central-government views
formed the basis of the Federalist Party. I was invited to become an aide to Nathanael Greene
and to Henry Knox; however, I declined these invitations and instead joined as Washington's
