Delta Kappa Gamma Symbols
Crest or Coat of Arms
The top portion of the crest represents leadership. The cup of knowledge and the laurel
wreath represent achievement. The torso below the laurel wreath on the crest represents
inspiration. The lamp of learning, the rose and a book are found on the crest. Finally, the
name of the society in Greek completes the crest.

Red Rose
The official flower of the Society is the red rose. It is used in all ceremonies and for special
occasions. Each member is given a red rose upon her initiation.

Delta Kappa Gamma Symbols

Purchase of the key is required of all members. It is the emblem of membership and may be
obtained only on the authority of the key care. If a member loses her key, she applies to the
president of her own chapter or to the Headquarters for another key permit card. The
member sends this with check of money order to International Headquarters, P.O. Box
1589, Austin, TX 78767-1589. Key permit cards may be obtained from International
Headquarters in Austin, TX.

The key may be pinned on a suit coat when it substitutes for a dress. It shall be worn at all
chapter meetings, and may be worn at other times. The member will avoid using the Delta
Kappa Gamma Key on a lapel, or bracelet, or in any utilitarian manner, such as fastening a
collar or pocket flap.

When a member resigns or is dropped, she should surrender the key to the chapter. If she
does not, she is expected to refrain from wearing it. The chapter may buy the pin from her. It
may be sold to a Delta Kappa Gamma member who has lost hers. Each chapter may decide
what disposition is to be made of keys of deceased members returned to the chapter.
Reclaimed keys are not sold to person being initiated as active members. If the chapter
policies on the disposition of keys are familiar to all members, embarrasing situations may
be avoided.

The Delta Kappa Gamma Song Delta Kappa Gamma, Are We!
by Annie Webb Blanton and Cora M. Zeta State Song—adopted 1983
Martin lyrics and music by Cile Waite (Alpha Beta)
arranged by Iris Brantley
Women teachers to the calling
From the Mississippi Delta to the sunny Gulf
Firmly rally, never falling,
Shore
Duty ne’er upon us palling,
With hearts reaching over the sea,
Staunch, courageous we!
Together we stand giving others our hand:
Loyalty and trust e’er heeding,
Delta Kappa Gamma are we!
Mindful of our sisters needing,
Aid and guidance from those leading, We lift up the cup of Knowledge to the youth
Helpful may we be! in our care,
To Delta Kappa Gamma And help them to follow their star,
Faith we pledge forever! As teacher and Guide with God’s love at our
Hand in hand our loyal band, side,
Forward moving ever! Delta Kappa Gamma we are!
Onward! ‘tis our sisters need us,
And with our sisters in other states and other
Courage, Faith, and Honour lead us!
countries, too,
Wrongs in truth and justice heed us!
We’ll keep the faith; we’ll hold it fast.
Firmly shall we stand!
Our lamps of beauty and life and truth
Guardians of the faith yet sleeping,
illuminate our dream—
For our sisters watch e’er keeping,
We’ll make it true; we’ll make it last—
Deeds of others no we’re reaping,
We for others stand! For a world where no one’s hungry or afraid or
To us pioneers have given; alone,
We return their gifts to heaven; A world that will always be free
Work for others is the leaven We’ll help the dream to grow, and we’ll sing as
That inspires our band! we go
Oh, Delta Kappa Gamma; Delta Kappa Gamma are we!
In thy fold we gather;
Unity and Liberty
Shall be our watchwords ever!
Education e’er we’ll further;
Each is bound to each as brother;
With this faith in one another
We shall win for aye!

Create Tomorrow
By: Darlene Helman

Delta Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma Yearbook 22 2 2016-2017

Create tomorrow, for tomorrow’s life is a challenge that is
unknown.
Create tomorrow for the coming generations.
Today tomorrow’s seeds are sown.

Refrain:
Create tomorrow! Make a choice!
Create tomorrow! Raise your voice!
The challenge for our future lies in what we choose today.
Create tomorrow! Create tomorrow!
Create tomorrow today!

Create tomorrow for the youth today.

The challenge is ours to take.
Create tomorrow. Make difference in life.
Today the choice is ours to make.

Refrain:
Create tomorrow! Make a choice!
Create tomorrow! Raise your voice!
The challenge for our future lies in what we choose today.
Create tomorrow! Create tomorrow!
Create tomorrow today!

The Blessing
By: Felecia H. Knowles (words)
(”Edelweiss” tune)

Bless our friends. Bless our food.

Come, O Lord, and sit with us.
May our talk glow with peace.
Send you love to surround us.
Friendship and peace may they bloom
And grow, bloom and grow forever.
Bless our friends, Bless our food.
Bless our dear land forever.

Benediction
Arlene Ydstie

May God give you peace in your heart.

May God give you love for one another.
With faith from the Father in whom we are one.
May God give you peace in your heart.

May God bless us and keep us this night.

May God guide our steps when we awaken.
We join heart and hand as we walk in His will.
May God bless us and keep us this night.

Delta Chapter Collect

Our Father which art in heaven, we thank Thee for the joys of friendship.
May we see life always as growth and reaching for the better
living day by day.
May we have a clear and purposeful vision free from pettiness.
Let us be large in thought, in word, in deed.
Free from fault-finding and from self-seeking.
May we never be hasty in judgment and always generous.
May we exercise this day the noblest capabilities that
Thou hast implanted in us.
Give us wisdom and courage to put into practice our best thoughts and
dispositions, and the things we most sincerely believe.
And, Lord, let us always be kind.
Give us a portion of Thy love that we may be understanding.
Endow us with a sincere faith that glorifies Thee at all times in all places.
We ask in Thy name.
Amen.
