Learning Outcome Number: 6.2 Describe how humans use the sea as a resource for fishing and tourism.

Lesson Objective:
After class discussion, students will be able to explain how the Sea is used for fishing and tourism.

1. What is tourism? Tourism is the travel for recreational, leisure or business purposes.
2. What is Fishing? The processes of catching wild fish or other aquatic species from waters,
3. What is the ocean/sea? A sea is defined as a portion of the ocean that is partly surrounded by land.
4. How do humans use the sea as a resource for fishing? Humans use the sea as a resource for
fishing to provide for themselves and family to consume at home or some become fisher men and
sell their product (fish, Lobster, conch) to the public as a daily main of income.
5. Fishing can also be a recreational activity that that one can do by themselves or in groups
6. ‘” Fishing sport” can also be a meaning of income a person or company.
7. The sea can be a source of tourism, by providing many different sites seeing that we can go and see
for example visiting Hol Chan Marine reserve, the Barrier reef and the Blue hole” these services
bring in revenue to the tourism industry.
8. The Boat provides transportation through the sea for tourist who are looking to come to the cayes ,
this provide great revenue towards the tourism industry.
After the notes have been given the students will sit in a circle in order to listen to a short video about
Fishing and Tourism in Belize.
Suggested Activities/Procedures:
Introductory Activities (5 mins.):
A Video will be shown to the students, after the video has been shown students will be asked to write
down key points from the video.
1. After doing the previous activity the students will then explain in their own words what they were
able to understand based on the video. (5-10 minutes)
