How to Create a Professional LinkedIn Pro le in 6

Steps.

Before I resumed at my current place of work, I considered LinkedIn a very boring

platform. In my opinion, everyone puts on their home training and most of the time are
usually faking it.

I only created a profile because I am an advocate of the need for everyone to have a
digital foot print online especially in these basic platforms (LinkedIn, Twitter,
Instagram, Facebook)

Then we had an opening and my HR began scouting for candidates and to my

uttermost surprise, she went LinkedIn hunting.
In my usual high level curiosity I asked why she didn’t go the usual way of posters to
the online application form etc, her reply is where the moral lesson of this entire epistle
lies.

“Miracle, first this role needs to be filled urgently and with LinkedIn it’s easier to find and
screen people as the platform is likened to a social CV. If they have the required keywords in
their profile, they’ll pop up in search”

Try Google searching your name, you’ll see that your LinkedIn profile comes up first
before others, that means it’s been Search Engine Optimized.

Therefore, if you are actively seeking employment or want to gain more professional
connections, I’ll advise you increase your activity on the platform.

Here are few tips to note before creating your profile…

1) Use your real name (The one that if God gives Angel Michael a package for you
would help him easily locate you) and a professional picture.

2) Put your best foot forward. Polish your about section, ask your serious friends to
help. Also ensure you include your Certifications, relevant work and volunteering
experiences.

There is a section for awards, you can also add if you have any.

3) Send connection requests, begin from the known to the unknown. Aim for people
that work in your desired industry, MD, CEOs, HR professionals, Coaches, etc.

4) Don’t just send connection requests, send a follow-up message introducing yourself
professionally.

5) You should to be clear about what you want to be known and intentionally drop
content in line with that. It is called content marketing and in no time you’ll establish
yourself as an authority in that field.

I prefer publishing as articles more than just normal posts.

6) Just like every other platform, the rule is same. Engage, interact. Like and comment
on whatever that resonates with you but this time, don’t go using those “Deep” “Ride
on” comments, be very professional.
If you are a business owner, you can create a LinkedIn page for your business and add
employees as team members.

Finally, there is a new feature on the platform; LinkedIn Live. This means you can go
live and your connections would be notified just like other platforms.

I’m certain these tips are helpful, do well to share with your friends and loved ones that
would need it.

Have a beautiful week!
