At the end of the lesson, the learners are able to:


• Classify contents of different media types
• Define media convergence through current examples

1. Give at least five types of print media.


2. Give at least five types of broadcast media.
3. Give at least five types of digital media/new media.

The different types of media can be broken down into two categories, print and broadcast.
The internet also emerging as a type of media, as lot of people are getting their news from the
internet.

TYPES OF MEDIA:

PRINT MEDIA- Broadly, any written or pictorial form of communication produced


mechanically or electronically using printing, photocopying, or digital methods from
which multiple copies can be made through automated processes

BROADCAST MEDIA- covers a wide spectrum of different communication methods


such as television, radio, newspapers, magazines and any other materials supplied by
the media and press.

DIGITAL OR NEW MEDIA- New media is considered the multimedia and digital form


of communication happening via desktop and laptop computers, as well as phones,
tablets and other devices. New media has introduced user interaction, rather than
simply consuming media.

PRINT MEDIA consisting of paper and ink, reproduced in a printing process that is
traditionally mechanical

NEWSPAPER- a paper that is printed and distributed usually daily or weekly and that
contains news, articles of opinion, features, and advertising. Two: an organization that
publishes a newspaper. Three: the paper of a newspaper: newsprint.

BOOKS- is a medium for recording information in the form of writing or images, typically
composed of many pages bound together and protected by a cover.
 Action and Adventure.
 Classics.
 Comic Book or Graphic Novel.
 Detective and Mystery.
 Fantasy.
 Historical Fiction.
 Horror.
 Literary Fiction.

MAGAZINES- is a periodical publication which is printed in gloss-


coated and matte paper or electronically published 

COMICS- is a medium used to express narratives or other ideas through images,


usually combined with text. It typically takes the form of a sequence of panels of
images.

BROCHURES- is an informative paper document for advertising, which can be folded


into a template.

BROADCAST MEDIA such as radio and television that reach target audiences using
airwaves as the transmission medium

TELEVISION- sometimes shortened to tele or telly, is a telecommunication medium


used for transmitting moving images in monochrome (black and white), or in color, and
in two or three dimensions and sound.

RADIO- is the technology of signaling and communicating


using radio waves. Radio waves are electromagnetic wave.

SATELLITES-  is an object that moves around a larger object. Earth is


a satellite because it moves around the sun. The moon is a satellite because it moves
around Earth. Earth and the moon are called "natural" satellites. But usually when
someone says "satellite," they are talking about a "man-made" satellite.

MOBILE PHONES- is a wireless handheld device that allows users to make and
receive calls and to send text messages, among other features.

MOVIES / FILMS- also called movie or motion picture, is a visual art form used to
simulate experiences that communicate ideas, stories, perceptions, feelings, beauty.

DIGITAL OR NEW MEDIA -contents are organized and distributed on digital platforms *
Digital refers to something using digits, particularly binary digits.

INTERNET- is the global system of interconnected computer networks that uses


the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to communicate between networks and devices.

SOCIAL MEDIA- are interactive computer-mediated technologies that facilitate the


creation or sharing of information, ideas, career interests and other forms

COMPUTERS- is an electronic device that manipulates information, or data. It has the

MEDIA CONVERGENCE

CONVERGE means meeting at a point; it is synonymous to the words: join, unite,


intersect, merge, connect, and coincide

MEDIA CONVERGENCE happens when different (two or more) media sources join
together. It allows media texts to be produced and distributed on multiple media
devices.

- It is the ability to transform different kinds of media into digital code, which is then
accessible by a range of devices.
