REASON/DESCRIPTION/OPERATIONAL CONSEQUENCES
Several Asian A330 / A340 operators have reported corrosion at the lower bilge of belly fairing sub-structure.
The most affected area is between FR39.1 and FR47 Y +/-1065, but corrosion has also been found at
further locations (e.g. aft of the Main Landing Gear panels). The corrosion is generally located around
anchor-nut holes.
Various design improvements have been introduced, further drain holes on belly fairing panels have been
added with Mod. No. 45814S13889 (FUSELAGE - CENTER FUSELAGE - IMPROVE BELLY FAIRING
DRAINAGE). Modifications No. 48404 (FUSELAGE - ELIMINATE CORROSION ON EXTERNAL FUSELAGE
SKIN UNDER THE BELLY FAIRING) and 50435S16586 (FUSELAGE - CENTER FUSELAGE - IMPROVE
BELLY FAIRING DRAINAGE) have been launched to avoid contamination with fluids from the fuselage drain
valves and the air conditioning packs, by installing funnels and drain pipes.
The latest enhancement has been provided through a serial modification No. 50675S16662 (FUSELAGE -
FAIRINGS - USE OF TITANIUM ON 31 BELLY FAIRING PARTS) on A330 / A340-200/300 aircraft, which
replaces tee flanges more frequently affected by corrosion with titanium ones. The concerned parts are
in the belly fairing bilge area.
According to decision taken during last symposium (May 2006), this Service Bulletin proposes to apply the
modification No. 50675S16662 and 58557S19522 (FUSELAGE - FAIRINGS - USE OF TITANIUM ON 31
BELLY FAIRING PARTS) on in-service aircraft. Means replacement of all aluminium tee flanges by titanium
ones in a one shot embodiment.
Nevertheless, individual replacement of each tee flange on case by case is still possible according procedure
detailed in SIL 53-092.
The modification consists in :
Modifying the lower bilge of the belly fairing between FR37.4 and FR53.8 by changing the aluminium tee
flanges by titanium ones. For aircraft on which Mod. No. 46752S14512 (FUSELAGE - BELLY FAIRING -
REINFORCE FR53.4 / 53.6 LH AND RH) is not embodied, this Service Bulletin must be accomplished
simultaneously with the Service Bulletin A330-53-3108, Mod. No. 46752S14512. In this case, when
operators accomplish the Service Bulletin A330-53-3108, they have to install directly the titanium flanges at
FR53.4 as described in the accomplishment instructions of the Service Bulletin A330-53-3166 instead of
the aluminium flanges.

C. REASON
(1) History

instead of the aluminium flanges.

(3) Advantages

D. DESCRIPTION
To accomplish this Service Bulletin it is necessary to :
(1) Config. 01
(a) Remove the panels between FR47 and the Main Landing Gear for access.
(b) Replace the flanges in the belly fairing between FR37.4 and FR39.1.
(c) Replace the flanges in the belly fairing between FR39.1 and FR44.
(d) Replace the flanges in the belly fairing between FR44 and FR47.
(e) Replace the flanges in the belly fairing on the FR53.2.
(f) Replace the flanges in the belly fairing between FR53.2 and FR53.8.
(g) Install the panels between FR47 and the Main Landing Gear.

If an aircraft listed in the effectivity has a modification or repair embodied that is not of AIRBUS
origin, and which affects the content of this Service Bulletin, the operator is responsible for
obtaining approval by its airworthiness authority for any adaptation necessary before incorporation
of the Service Bulletin.
G. MANPOWER
The manpower estimates given in this Service Bulletin are based on the direct labor cost to do the
work. These estimates assume that the work will be done by experienced personnel, and may
need to be revised upwards to suit operator’s circumstances. The estimates do not include the
time to prepare, plan or inspect the work. Manufacture and procurement of parts and tools, drying
times for paints, sealants, etc, and general administration work are also not included.

3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
A. GENERAL
WARNING : MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE WARNINGS AND ALL THE CAUTIONS
INCLUDED IN THE REFERENCED PROCEDURES.
CAUTION : ALWAYS OBEY THE PRECAUTIONS THAT FOLLOW TO KEEP ELECTRICAL

WIRING IN A SATISFACTORY CONDITION (ELECTRICALLY AND MECHANICALLY
SERVICEABLE). WHEN YOU DO MAINTENANCE WORK, REPAIRS OR
MODIFICATIONS, ALWAYS KEEP ELECTRICAL WIRING, COMPONENTS AND
THE WORK AREA AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE. TO DO THIS:
PUT PROTECTION, SUCH AS PLASTIC SHEETING, CLOTHS, ETC; AS
NECESSARY ON WIRING AND COMPONENTS.
REGULARLY REMOVE ALL SHAVINGS, UNWANTED MATERIAL AND OTHER

CONTAMINATION.
THESE PRECAUTIONS WILL DECREASE THE RISK OF CONTAMINATION AND

DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL WIRING INSTALLATION.
IN CASE OF CONTAMINATION REFER TO ESPM 20-55-00.
(1) Preparation
(a) Config. 01
1 Make sure that the aircraft is electrically grounded (Refer to AMM 12-34-24,
Page block 201).
2 Open the FWD cargo-compartment door 821 (Refer to AMM 52-30-00, Page
block 201).
3 Open the MLG doors (Refer to AMM 32-12-00, Page block 201).
4 Put the access platforms in position.
5 Remove the access door of the CLG door ground opening handle (149BB)
(Refer to AMM 52-42-32, Page block 401).
6 Remove the access door of the MLG door ground opening handle (149CB)
7 Remove the air outlet flap assembly (Refer to AMM 53-35-42, Page block 401).
8 Remove the belly-fairing access panels (Refer to AMM 53-35-13, Page block
401 and AMM 06-41-53, Page block 001) :
- For Kit 533166A01R01: access panels 191AB, 191BB, 191DB and 192BB.
- For Kit 533166A02R00: access panels 191DB, 191FB, 192BB, 192GB,

192JB, 192MB, 192NB, 192PB, 193AB, 193BB and 193DB.

9 Remove the LH and RH belly fairing access panels behind MLG doors (Refer

(2) Standard Practices
(a) For the specification of the material numbers (Mat No.), refer to CML.
(b) Clean the surfaces to seal with solvent Solvent General Purpose (Mat. No. 11-026).
(c) Remove/install the fasteners (Refer to SRM 51-42-11).
(d) Drill and deburr the holes (Refer to SRM 51-44-11).
(e) To countersink the holes (Refer to SRM 51-46-11).
(f) For alternative and substitute fasteners, (Refer to SRM 51-43-11).
- NAS1919M05SXXW can be replaced by monel rivets NSA5415V40-XX or

ASNA2586-40-XX.
- NAS1919M06SXXW can be replaced by monel rivets NSA5415V48-XX or

ASNA2586-48-XX.
- The length of these rivets can be adapted according to what is found in stock.
Operator will end up cutting to length the rivets before installation.
NOTE : Special care has to be taken for monel rivets as they are more difficult
to cut than aluminium rivets. Cutting must be clean and deburred so
that the rivets do not crack during squeezing.
(g) Cut the rivets to the necessary length.
(h) Torque the standard threaded fasteners (Refer to AMM 20-21-00, Page block 001).
(i) Install the fasteners with Corrosion Inhibiting Brush Consistency (Mat. No. 09-013)
(wet assembly).
(j) Do the electrical bonding (Refer to AMM 20-28-11, Page block 001) with Pure
Mineral Vaseline or Petro-Latum (Mat. No. 04-012) and Electrical Bonding Coating
(Blue Color) (Mat. No. 07-001).
(k) Apply Corrosion Inhibitive interfay Sealant (Mat. No. 09-005) or Polysulphide
Sealant for Interfay (Mat. No. 09-043) to interfaces of structure and new parts as
specified in SRM 51-24-00.
(l) Do a bead of Corrosion Inhibiting Brush Consistency (Mat. No. 09-013B) on the new
parts as specified in SRM 51-24-00.
(m) Renew the protective finish with Low Voc Anti Corrosion Primer (Mat. No. 16-006D)
and Internal Top Coat (Mat. No. 16-002C).
(n) Apply the sealant (Refer to SRM 51-24-00).

NOTE : Depending on aircraft configuration, the existing flange could have 2

unused holes near Y-925. It is not necessary to transfer these holes
to the new flange item 139.
3 On bench, temporarily put in position the receptacles items 68 and 73 on

the flange item 139.
4 On bench, drill the new flange item 139 to match the holes with the receptacles
items 68 and 73.
5 Remove and deburr.
6 On bench, install :
7 Temporarily, put in position to the structure the flange item 139, the splices
item 7 and item 140.
1 Splice F5331518700695 Item 7
1 Splice F5331567620000 Item 140
8 Drill the flange item 139 and the splices item 7 and item 140 to match the
holes with the structure.
9 Remove and deburr.
10 Install :

- For Kit 533166A03R00: access panels 149AB, 195BB, 195CB, 195DB, 196AB
(193DB, 193MB, 193NB if necessary).
- For Kit 533166A04R00 and Kit 533166A05R00: access panels 197AB, 197BB,
197EB, 197FB, 197GB, 197HB, 198BB, 198EB, 198GB, 198HB.
(d) Install the air outlet flap assembly (Refer to AMM 53-35-42, Page block 401).
(e) Install the access door of the CLG door ground opening handle (149BB) (Refer
