News anchor
Good morning Indonesia, I’m Rizkya Prakoso and this is CNN News. Dear viewers, CNN
News will bring you interesting news over the next half hour.
The first news comes from Australia. Australia is being ravaged by the worst wildfires seen
in decades, with large swaths of the country devastated since the fire season began in late
July. Dry lightning was responsible for starting a number of fires in Victoria's East Gippsland
region in late December, which then traveled more than 20 kilometers in just five hours,
according to state agency Victoria Emergency. Humans can also be to blame, NSW police
have charged at least 24 people with deliberately starting bushfires, and have taken legal
action against 183 people for fire-related offenses since November, according to a police
statement. There are more than 2,000 firefighters working on the ground in NSW alone, and
more support is on the way the US, Canada, and New Zealand have sent additional
firefighters to help.
Massive evacuation are underway in the state of Victoria and New South Wales, with
authorities warning that weather conditions are expected to deteriorate significantly this
weekend raising the fire danger even further. At least 28 people have died nationwide, and in
the state of New South Wales (NSW) alone, more than 3,000 homes have been destroyed or
damaged. The prime minister earlier said up to $4,200 will go to each of the volunteer
firefighters battling blazes for more than 10 days. CNN, Siti Saadah join us now live in New
South Wales, Australia. So saadah there’s a massive evacuation in New South Wales, how is
everything going and what’s the lastest news about the wildfire there?

Reporter 1
Thank you rizkya…good morning viewers. My name is siti saadah. Here I’m reporting
directly from new south wales, Australia.
Recently, there have been fires in every Australian state, but New South Wales has been
hardest hit. Each year there is a fire season during the Australian summer, with hot, dry
weather making it easy for blazes to start and spread. Natural causes are to blame most of the
time, like lightning strikes in drought-affected forests. Humans can also be to blame. NSW
police have charged at least 24 people with deliberately starting bushfires, and have taken
legal action against 183 people for fire-related offenses since November, according to a
police statement. Massive evacuation are underway in the state of Victoria and New South
Wales, with authorities warning that weather conditions are expected to deteriorate
significantly this weekend raising the fire danger even further. Today, I am accompanied with
NSW Police Officer, Mr. ryan harahap.

Reporter : good morning mr. harahap. As we know that this state has been on fire for the few
days. And there are so many victim aside of human but also some animal. So how is the
condition in new south wales so far?

Source : good morning. As you can see the condition in this state is getting worse as fires
increase everyday. Even the temperature in here increased drastically in two days. And this
wildfire has caused so many houses in damaged.

Reporter : okay, because of the fire in here is getting worse and almost all the houses are in
damaged. So some people don’t have any places to stay in here because it’s so dangerous to
stay. Did the government conduct the massive evacuation for the people in here?

Source : yes, we conducted a massive evacuation in here and also in Victoria. We also
increased the firefighters almost more than 2000 for extinguish the fire. The government also
allocated billions of dollars in federal aid, to help the people in this state.

Reporter : okay so the government allocated billions of dollars in federal aid to help some
people in this state. But we all know that the fire detrimental to the government. How much
money has been caused by the fire for government to covered the infrastructure damaged?

Source : the government has spent more than $2 Billions dollars to compensate for the
damage. The money is used to rebuild vital infrastructure such as schools and buildings that
have burned down. Even the government raises the salaries for every volunteer firefighters.

Reporter: it has been said the government will raise salaries for volunteers. While the country
is experiencing huge losses. Then how can the government get such as a large amount of
money under these condition from other countries and what from assistance.

Source:
Reporter: beside of the fact that have been revealed that the caused of the fire wasn’t only
because of climate change, but there’s also actors behind the fire. Is there a separate motive
from the perpetrators. And what punishment will be given added to destroy nature in
Australia.

Source :

Reporter : That this fire is not only caused by nature, but there are perpetrators who caused
this ignorance. And the motives of the perpetrators were not yet known. Perpetrators will
be sentenced accordingly, but the police have not clarified what punishment will be given.
Of course the negative effects of these fires are not only felt by humans but animals must feel
it. However, this disaster invited a lot of attention from various groups of artists, not only that
the Facebook community provided a fundraising of 1 million US dollars (9.5 billion).
That's all from me, back to the studio

Thank You Siti Saadah for reporting directly from New South Wales. Now we’ll know more
about the wildfire in Australia.
If you're looking for a reason to care about tree loss, this summer's record-breaking heat
waves might be it. Deforestation or tree loss is the clearing of trees, transforming a wooded
area into cleared land. Trees can lower summer daytime temperatures by as much as 10
degrees Fahrenheit, according to a recent study. A study published last year by the US Forest
Service found that we lost 36 million trees annually from urban and rural communities over a
five-year period. That's a 1% drop from 2009 to 2014. Nowak says there are many reasons
our tree canopy is declining, including hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, insects and disease. But
the one reason for tree loss that humans can control is sensible development.
The study placed a value on tree loss based on trees' role in air pollution removal and energy
conservation. The lost value amounted to $96 million a year. Urban forests especially need
our help to replace fallen trees. Unlike rural areas, it is very difficult for trees to repopulate
themselves in a city environment with so much pavement and asphalt.
In a few moments, we’ll connect with our reporter, Vina Amalia from the Georgia, US. Hello
vina, how is everything going there?
