Presidential elections and possible candidates

9th July 2019

PSD – the senior ruling party of Romania

The PSD Congress to elect the presidential candidate will take place on August 3 rd 2019.

So far, the following have announced their intention to run for Presidential elections:

-PSD Chief Executive Eugen Teodorovici;

-PSD General Secretary Mihai Fifor;

-Deputy Liviu Pleşoianu;

-Senator Şerban Nicolae to presidential elections;

-Calin Popescu Tariceanu would also like to be the candidate of the coalition for the presidential
elections.

The PSD does not exclude the choice of a candidate outside the party. The formation led by
Viorica Dăncilă started several opinion polls regarding the designation of a president. On July 1,
PSD President Viorica Dăncilă said that, depending on the results of the polls, "we'll see what
we embrace", in connection with the possibility of a presidential candidate from PSD-ALDE and
Pro Romania.

ALDE leader Calin Popescu-Tariceanu said that, in his opinion, the best solution for the
presidential election is a unique candidate from PSD - ALDE - PRO Romania.

About the subject, Viorica Dăncilă said she did not appear in the presidential candidates polls
because she did not consider joining the competition for a mandate at Cotroceni Palace.

Being asked if PSD will suffer a failure in the presidential election she would quit, Viorica Dăncilă
replied that before she would resign, she would ask the resignation of those who did not
achieve the result they were expected to get.
