A Leakage of Hope

Foot Soldiers: Kamal Raj Johari

One day, Kamal, a FSC volunteer, received a call from Mr S. K. Sharma, who was in the
state of panic and didn’t know what to do. On asking further, Mr Sharma, explained his
situation:

Mr. Sharma, an 85 years old, was living alone and had no help. He could smell gas in his
house and on examining he noticed that there was gas leakage from the LPG cylinder. He
immediately called the gas agency but, there was no response. He called up again and again,
but could not establish contact. As it was an emergency situation and needed immediate help
he contacted FSC volunteer, Kamal.

Firstly, Kamal asked him to take the necessary precautionary steps. He instructed Mr Sharma
to take the cylinder away from any inflammable items, keep it in balcony and open all the
windows and doors. Then he asked him to share the gas cylinder details like consumer
number, registered mobile number and the gas agency’s name & number. Co-incidentally,
Kamal and Mr Sharma were taking supply from the same gas agency. Kamal then called up
the service provider’s toll-free number but he could not contact them. So he decided to check
on the internet if could lodge a complaint online. He found the service provider’s website and
filled the complaint. Kamal gave the complaint details to Mr Sharma and asked him to call
back, in case no one arrives in next 45 minutes.

Within half an hour of raising the complaint, a technician arrived at Mr Sharma’s home. He
informed Kamal about the technician’s arrival and the gas leakage was fixed.
