3.1 Setup of the HyperTerminal for serial Connection

IMPORTANT:
The Hyper Terminal setup as displayed here can be used for all AGFA HealthCare
printers and digitizers.
It is based on Windows XP.
For Windows Vista and Windows 7 the Hyper Terminal is not available
anymore.
Instead of the HyperTerminal the freeware program "Tera Term" is recommended to
connect to terminal level:

(1) To start the setup of the HyperTerminal, go to:

<Programs - Accessories - HyperTerminal - HyperTerminal>

Figure 20

(2) Enter a name for the connection, e.g.

AGFA.

3.2 Getting the IP Address of the Printer

Following six possibilities exist to get the printer IP address:

A) Printer is booted up:

1. Select Key-operator menu "2 Show Settings - 3 Network-Dicom".
2. Select Service Menu "1 Show info - 2 Network Info".

B) Printer hangs with "Error - System Failure":

1. Look-up the IP address in file "infocounters_old\0\infocounters.txt, which is
located in the backup ZIP file on floppy or a previous backup made via browser.
2. Connect from the Service PC to the printer via Hyperterminal (see section 3.1)
and type "show info": Parameter "Net ID" shows the printer IP address.
3. Connect from the PC to the printer via Hyperterminal (see section 3.1) and switch
off/on the printer: After approx. 130 lines the line "TCP/IP Net0 Internet
address is <printer IP address>" is displayed.
4. Connect from the Service PC to the printer via Hyperterminal (see section 3.1)
and type "sym -p":
Parameter "symbol NET.ADDRESS" shows the printer IP address.

3.3 Booting with the Boot CF Card or Boot Floppy and resetting the IP
Address of the Printer to default (169.254.10.10)

The unzipped software has one subdirectory 'disk0' with 2 files (startup.com and
disk.id). They are copied to CF card or floppy to create a ‘boot CF card’ / ‘boot floppy’.

When booting with the ‘boot CF card’ / ‘boot floppy’, the IP address of the printer is
temporarily set back to default (169.254.10.10). Additionally the necessary drivers are
loaded to be able to perform an emergency software installation via
“remote_emergency_install.bat” file.

After boot-up with the ‘boot CF card’ / ‘boot floppy’ the printer shows ERROR –
System failure. It does not delete any files on the hard disk however.

Use the boot CF card / boot floppy in following cases:

A) To set back the IP address to 169.254.10.10 for remote emergency

software installation

B) To prepare the printer for installation via “remote_emergency_install.bat” file in

case it does not boot anymore.

(1) Copy the content of subdirectory ‘disk0’ of the unzipped software to CF card or
floppy:
The single files (startup.com and disk.id.) have to be directly in the root of the
CF card or floppy.

(2) Insert the CF card / floppy in the CF card reader / floppy drive.

(3) S witch off/on the printer.

(4) Wait approx. 1 minute, until the printer shows: ERROR - System failure:
Now the printer is prepared for emergency software installation via
“remote_emergncy_install.bat” file.

(5) Remove the ‘boot CF card’ / ‘boot floppy’.

(6) Adapt the Service PC IP address to 169.254.10.11 with subnet mask

255.255.0.0 or set it to “Obtain an IP address automatically”.
For details see section 3.4.

(7) Continue with software installation via

via remote_emergency_install.bat file
as described in section 1.
For printer IP address use
169.254.10.10 or leave it empty and
select <Yes> at question “Do you want
to use the default IP-address with a
cross-link cable”?

3.4 Adjusting the IP Address of the Service PC

To connect the printer and the Service PC via network, the IP address of the Service
PC has to be adapted.

Proceeding:
(1) Look up the printer IP address and subnet mask in the printer key operator
menu "1 Show settings - 3 Network (DICOM)".
(2) Define an IP address for the Service PC by adding or subtracting "1" to the last
digit of the IP address.
Example: Printer IP address = 192.168.2.4
Service PC address = 192.168.2.3 or 192.168.2.5
(3) Enter IP address and subnet mask. See:
 Section 3.4.1: Adapting the PC Address if Operating System is Windows XP
 Section 3.4.2: Adapting the PC Address if Operating System is Windows 7

3.5 Troubleshooting Problems when executing File

"remote_emergency_install.bat"

Executing the Remote_emergency_install.bat file requires the Java Runtime

Environment (JRE). It is tested with Java versions 5, 6, 7 and 8. If Java is not installed,
the user interface for the software upload is not displayed.
Proceeding:
(1) Check the installed Java version on the service PC: Control panel > Java.
(2) If none of the supported Java versions is installed, download and install the Java
Runtime Environment from www.oracle.com > Java > Java Runtime
Environment. With release of this document JRE Version 8 Update 25 is
available for download.
(3) Double-click again on file: Remote_Emergency_install.bat

f the graphical user interface for software installation shown in Figure 3 is still not
displayed, check the environment variable for Java:
(1) Select menu: Start > Control
Panel > System > Advanced
system settings > Environment
Variables. See Figure 34.
(2) Check whether variable
JAVA_HOME is available and
whether the path setting is
correct. See Figure 34.
(3) If variable JAVA_HOME is not
available: Create variable. See
Figure 33.
(4) Close the Control Panel screens
and double-click again on file:

3.6 Troubleshooting a failed Software Installation

In case the software upgrade via Remote_Emergency_install.bat file was not

successful, e.g. printer is 10 minutes after the last reboot still hanging with message
'Wait selftest proceeding’ or starts up with message ‘ERROR System Failure’ proceed
as follows:
(1) Connect the service PC to the printer via RS232 cable and open a terminal
session: Check the current status of the printer.
(2) In case there is an evidence of a failed software installation, restart the batch file
and retry the software installation with the batch file.
(3) If the problem persists, boot the printer with the ‘boot CF card’ / ‘boot floppy’. For
details see section 3.3.
