SCOPE OF DELIVERY:
Contents of the software ZIP File:
Printer Software for installation via batch file (network), browser or CF card
Installation Instructions (this document)
REQUIRED TOOLS:
Enclosed a list of minimum required tools. See also NOTE next page for additional
tools.
For software update via batch file:
o Service PC
o Network cable*
For software update via network (browser):
o Service PC with browser. Following browsers were successfully tested:
- Internet Explorer 8 and 9
- FireFox 7.0
o Network cable*
For software update via CF card**:
o Service PC with CF card reader
o CF card (part of printer delivery if printer has CF card reader installed)
*Recent PC models autodetect the type of network connection: The standard network cable can be used
for connection between printer and PC. For PC models which do not autodetect the type of network
connection a crossed network cable (commercially available or spare part number CM+3366850) is
required.
** Drystar 5503 with SN ≥ 18904 have a CF card reader installed ex factory. Printers below this serial
number have a floppy drive installed.
REQUIRED SOFTWARE:
For software installation via Remote_emergency_install.bat file:
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) ≥ Version 5.
For more information refer to section 3.5.
NOTE:
To be prepared for troubleshooting and creating or reloading a backup of the machine
specific data be sure to have following tools available:
CF card reader (e.g. external USB CF card reader)
CF card 1 GB (spare part number: CM+3433562)
Floppy drive (e.g. external USB floppy drive)
A new, formatted 3,5 inch floppy disk
RS232 interface (e.g. USB to RS232 serial converter)
RS232 cable to connect to the printer RS232 interface: 25 pin, SUB-D,
female DTE
REQUIRED TIME:
Approximately 1 hour:
15 minutes preparation
30 minutes software installation
15 minutes verification
NOTE:
For new features and solved bugs refer to Service Documentation chapter 3.8,
Software Releases, Patches.
This software can be used to perform a software upgrade or software installation from
scratch (e.g. after exchange of the hard disk drive):
IMPORTANT:
Skip steps (1) to (8) if the printer is in ERROR SYSTEM FAILURE status or after
exchange of the hard disk drive.
(2) Check the installed software release: Only install the available software if it is
higher than the installed software.
(4) Write down the AE-title to compare it with the AE-title after the upgrade.
(8) Mark the image with a waterproof pen as image before software installation.
(10) If the printer is in ERROR SYSTEM FAILURE status or after exchange of the
hard disk drive: Look up the printer IP address or set it back to default as
described in section 3.2.
(11) Define an IP address for the Service PC by adding or subtracting "1" to the last
digit of the printer IP address.
Example:
Printer IP address = 10.6.5.121
Service PC address = 10.6.5.122
Figure 1
NOTE:
Skip steps (14) to (20) if the printer is in ERROR SYSTEM FAILURE status or after
exchange of the hard disk drive.
Figure 3
IMPORTANT:
In some cases it is required to select No at question "OK to backup configuration files
and RESTORE them afterwards". Examples: After installation of a new hard disk drive
or if the backup is corrupted. In this case it is required to restore the machine specific
data after successful software installation as described on next page.

(29) When finished with software installation, the printer shows following message at
the local keypad:
DO NOT DOWNGRADE THE SOFTWARE TO A VERSION LOWER THAN
6.3.0. IT CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS.
Press the confirm key.

exchanged.
(30) On the local keypad select service menu: 5 Install data - 2 Machine
specific data
(32) If the machine specific data are lost or corrupted: Load factory defaults and
install the Thermal Head floppy if the Thermal head has been exchanged. For
information how to get the required data refer to following documents:

(39) Copy the backup to the local service PC and from there to floppy or CF card.
(43) Compare the AE-title of the printer with the AE title before the upgrade: If it is
identical, this is a proof that the printer configuration is still present.
(48) At the light box check the image quality of all images.
IMPORTANT:
The software installation via browser does not work in following cases:
In combination Windows XP SP3 and Internet Explorer 6.
If the current printer software is below 4.0.0_C1.
(2) Check the installed software release: Only install the available software if it is
higher than the installed software.

IMPORTANT:
The Hyper Terminal setup as displayed here can be used for all AGFA HealthCare
printers and digitizers.
It is based on Windows XP.
For Windows Vista and Windows 7 the Hyper Terminal is not available
anymore.
Instead of the HyperTerminal the freeware program "Tera Term" is recommended to
connect to terminal level:

Figure 23
3.3 Booting with the Boot CF Card or Boot Floppy and resetting the IP
Address of the Printer to default (169.254.10.10)
The unzipped software has one subdirectory 'disk0' with 2 files (startup.com and
disk.id). They are copied to CF card or floppy to create a ‘boot CF card’ / ‘boot floppy’.
When booting with the ‘boot CF card’ / ‘boot floppy’, the IP address of the printer is
temporarily set back to default (169.254.10.10). Additionally the necessary drivers are
loaded to be able to perform an emergency software installation via
“remote_emergency_install.bat” file.
After boot-up with the ‘boot CF card’ / ‘boot floppy’ the printer shows ERROR –
System failure. It does not delete any files on the hard disk however.
(1) Copy the content of subdirectory ‘disk0’ of the unzipped software to CF card or
floppy:
The single files (startup.com and disk.id.) have to be directly in the root of the
CF card or floppy.
(2) Insert the CF card / floppy in the CF card reader / floppy drive.
(4) Wait approx. 1 minute, until the printer shows: ERROR - System failure:
Now the printer is prepared for emergency software installation via
“remote_emergncy_install.bat” file.
Figure 24
To connect the printer and the Service PC via network, the IP address of the Service
PC has to be adapted.
Proceeding:
(1) Look up the printer IP address and subnet mask in the printer key operator
menu "1 Show settings - 3 Network (DICOM)".
(2) Define an IP address for the Service PC by adding or subtracting "1" to the last
digit of the IP address.
Example: Printer IP address = 192.168.2.4
Service PC address = 192.168.2.3 or 192.168.2.5
(3) Enter IP address and subnet mask. See:
Section 3.4.1: Adapting the PC Address if Operating System is Windows XP
