ABOUT THIS MODULE

This module has been carefully crafted to ensure the delivery,
understanding, and transfer to real life applications the Most Essential
Learning Competencies (MELCs) in Mathematics 10 as required by the
Department of Education. The activities and assessments are aligned with
the competencies to ensure that learner achievement is optimally reached.
The parent or guardian is provided space to get involved in the module
(feedback, suggestions, and observation). The learner is given self-improvement opportunities
through reflections, personal prayer and journals. Values integration is given a very important part in
the module.

In this unit, the standards are:

The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of factors of polynomials,

rational algebraic expressions, linear equations and inequalities in two variables,
systems of linear equations and inequalities in two variables and linear functions.

The learner is able to formulate real-life problems involving factors of

polynomials, rational algebraic expressions, linear equations and inequalities
in two variables, systems of linear equations and inequalities in two variables
and linear functions, and solve these problems accurately using a variety of
strategies.

The learner will become…

For this week, our learning target is listed below. Monitor your progress in this
week’s module using this checklist of learning target.
I can illustrate the
rectangular
coordinate system
and its uses.
I can illustrate linear
equations in two
variables.
I can illustrate and
find the slope of a line
given two points,
equation, and graph.
I can write the linear
equation ax +by=c in
the form y=mx+b
and vice versa.

STUDENT’S PRAYER

Before you formally begin with this module, please write a personal prayer in the prayer box
below.
9. Do not number Activities, just indicate Activity name.

Humans have explored the sky, the outer space and the deep blue sea. But has
anyone been to or drill down into the deepest part of the crust or the innermost part of the
earth. You have probably seen photos and videos of the stars and planets including Earth
taken from outer space as well as the bottom of a sea but have you seen an actual photo of
the earth’s interior?
You studied earthquakes and tsunamis in the 8 th grade and volcanoes in the 9th
grade. Have you ever wondered how these geological wonders of the earth are related?
Have you ever asked why some mountains erupt while others don’t? Does the Earth’s crust
move during, before, or after an earthquake and when a volcano erupts? How should we
prepare for a disaster of this magnitude? What is plate tectonics? In this module we will put
together everything you’ve learned in the past two years. Also, we will approach the study
of these geological processes at a more global scale and still be able to use and apply your
learning in the Philippine setting.
Let’s start the weekly module by gathering your ideas about plate tectonics. As we
go through this weekly module, keep on thinking about these questions: How
should we prepare for disasters that include volcanic eruptions, earthquakes
and tsunamis? How do Earth’s plate movements affect humans?

PUT ON THE MAP

Look at the world map shown below. Where do you think earthquakes are most likely to
happen? Where can you find volcanoes? Where are the major mountain belts of the world
located? Where are tsunamis most likely to occur?

Write your answer to these questions by filling in the “Put on the Map” worksheet below.
Alternatively, you can download a copy of the map, then crop, label, and paste parts of it or
the whole map under the “Where in the world?” column. Then write your reason or
explanation under the “Why here?” column.

Based on our lesson, what are your new learning and realizations as a child of God? In
the space below, write your lesson’s reflection through a prayer. A related Bible verse is
also provided below to help and guide you more on the prayer you will formulate.
Together, let us do things toward His Holiness because we are precious in His eyes.
Congratulations, you had just finished your module 1! You may now write the things
that you learned, found interesting and your questions as your learning summary.

Dear Parent / Guardian,

We would also like to hear from you about your observations, suggestions or
comments, and other feedbacks regarding this module. You may write them down in
the box provided below. Remember, we are partners in this learning journey of your
child. Your feedbacks will be highly appreciated.
