(a) Chitarang Murdia – All India Rank 1 in JEE Advanced 2014 “I was expecting my AIR to be in top 20 but it really is an unexpected result and I am very happy that my hard work really paid off. The achievement has been possible due to my hard work, focus and determination that I put in the last 2 years. Moreover my curiosity of exploring the facts, fundamentals and concepts helped me a lot in understanding the basics of the entire subject which plays a key role for the success in the exam. A regular study is very important for the success in exam. I always tried that whatever is taught in coaching must be revised on the same day and the all assignments given, must be completed in the appropriate time. I used to study in the slots of three hours, as the exam of JEE is of three hours. According to me, Physics was easiest to prepare as it is my favourite subject and Chemistry was toughest as the chemistry has very huge course content. The syllabus of JEE MAIN and JEE ADVANCED is very enormous and coaching helps a student in creating the environment and the motivation to go through the whole syllabus. Coachings also help the students in resolving their doubts. As far as self preparation is concerned if a candidate can create such environment and resolve his doubts by his own then he should not take admission in any coaching. The period of fifty days between JEE MAIN and JEE ADVANCED is very crucial. We must create some short notes on the whole syllabus in the earlier days of studies so that we can revise the whole syllabus in the 45 days. In last 5 or 6 days we must remain stress free and try to do the revisions only and must have a complete sleep one night before the exam. More than helping social media channels are the hindrance in the preparation, so I always try to keep the distance from different social media channels during my preparation period of two years. During the two years of my studies I have always tried to learn from my mistake. One should never ignore his/her mistake as even the silly mistakes can destroy your dreams.” 10
(b) Amey Gupta – All India Rank 8 in JEE Advanced 2014
“I maintained pace in regular studies and always focused on enhancing my question solving speed. I spent past two years in dedicated studies to gain clarity on fundamental concepts of Physics, Chemistry, Maths (PCM) along with monthly/weekly tests to ascertain my exam preparation strategy. Routine study was always a strong part of my exam preparation but it used to be flexible study hours. I used to study for 2-3 hours in three stretches in a day. On an average, I used to study 8-9 hours including coaching classes. It was my habit to complete the study assignments, which carried mock questions, on regular basis. Besides, I also attempted a lot of mock tests to improve my exam preparation. In fact, the numerous mock tests that I took in past two years brought an impressive improvement in my speed to attempt and solve questions. Mathematics was the easiest section for me. The toughest section was Chemistry but I am satisfied with my performance in the section and I managed to score 105 marks. I believe that enrolling with coaching class is not a guarantee to crack JEE examination or any other competitive examination. Apart from your intermediate exam preparation, you need to have a different preparation strategy to crack JEE Main/Advanced examination. Candidates equipped with shortcut methods to solve questions in time efficient manner have better chance of securing a decent rank. At coaching classes, students are taught several time saving tricks. So, joining coaching offers a few added advantages. My message to aspirants is to stay focused, study consistently and believe in hard work to achieve success. Students should be cool and confident about achieving their target.” 11
(c) Pramod Vakacharla – All India Rank Ist in JEE Main 2014
“I scored 120 in both Mathematics and Chemistry, and my
Physics score was 115. I could do all questions in the paper except one question in Physics. Actually, I knew the right answer to that Physics question also, but marked the wrong bubble in the OMR Answer sheet. Actually, I had been scoring above 320-330 in all my practice tests before JEE Main. So, I was expecting a similar score in the JEE Main result also. But, I was not sure that I would score highest in the JEE Main 2014. My focus was never on the marks. I always dedicated my time and energy on solving 100 per cent questions in my test series. But, I never expected that I will do almost all questions correctly in the actual test. I dedicated around 11 hours daily on studies. I spent 4 hours on my daily classes and rest 7 hours on self study. Overall, I divided the daily preparations into three parts - 3 hours each for Physics and Mathema tics and 4 hours for Chemistry. Since I put up in the hostel, I consult my teachers whenever I have doubts on any question or any topic. I naturally go and discuss with them random problems related to my preparations. Since my favorite subject is Chemistry, I found the questions relatively easier. Physics was a bit difficult and Mathematics was of average difficulty level. My test series for JEE Advanced are on and I am fully concentrating on doing well in JEE Advanced 2014.” — Pramod, from Andhra Pradesh, scored 355/360 in JEE Main 2014 12
(d) Prathu Baronia – one of the topper in JEE Main 2014
“My preparation strategy for JEE Main 2014 was simple and traditional. I did not adhere to a strict day-to-day preparation strategy for a particular topic or subject. I started preparing for the national level engineering exam along with my intermediate examination. Although I did not follow a time-bound deadline for any specific section to ace my JEE Main preparation but I solved a lot of mathematics questions on daily basis. Solving mathematical questions is an activity for me with which I love to indulge. So much is my love and interest in the subject that, the moment I see a math question I am tempted to solve that. JEE Main 2014 exam was moderate in terms of difficulty level. I followed a planned time management strategy during the exam and skipped difficult questions. First, I tried to solve easy questions correctly. The strategy saved my time and helped me boost confidence after hitting a few right answers. In the second round, I attempted the difficult ones and to my surprise I could solve most of them. Again, I have not devised any unique strategy for JEE Advance 2014. I will prefer studying random topics from any of the three subjects. I am confident to crack the next level, i.e ,JEE Advance 2014 also.” — Prathu, from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, scored 342/ 360 in JEE Main 2014 – Physics-110; Chemistry-112 & Mathematics-120
