ABOUT THE SEMINAR:
In collaboration with PICE and Holcim Philippines, Pinoy Builders will conduct a
1.5 hours lecture on Fundamentals of Cement and Concrete on July 22,
2020 under Self-directed learning program for engineers and architects to
discuss the following topics:
First part of the lecture will cover quick introduction to cement
- How is the modern cement is made and what compromises it?
- What is a basic cement hydration and how does cement become a building
material?
Different types of cement
- How does ordinary Portland cement differ from blended cement?
- How do these types of cement differ by application?
- What are most common cement types available in the Philippines?
From Cement to Concrete
-- Why is concrete durability important? How does cement contribute to that?
-- What are the most common durability issues encountered in the site?
Second part of the lecture will provide the participants a basic description of
concrete as a top construction material.
- Different properties of concrete both fresh and hardened state which are
very important to the quality of the structure.
- The subject will define the major components of concrete such as cement,
aggregates, water, and admixtures.
- Roles in the over-all concrete performance will be discussed.
- Components of concrete are best selected to make quality concrete and
avoid problems.
- Best practices in basic concreting will also be taken up.
Mechanics of the Assessment test:
- Participants must attend the 1.5 hours lecture and must be able to get a
passing rate of 70% in the assessment test.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Engr. Dick Bon P. Salcedo, is a licensed Civil Engineer, having
earned his degree from Ateneo de Davao University. His
experience ranges from being a Project Engineer, Quantity
Engineer, Construction Inspector, and Structural Design
Engineer for various public and private projects in the
Philippines. He is currently a Technical Services Officer,
conducting training related to basic concrete standard sampling
and testing of concrete based on ASTM and ACI standards.
Engr. Mary Grace L. Hufana, is a licensed Civil Engineer and
Accredited Material Engineer. Grace has experience in design
and construction, project management and material
management. Her more than a decade work in public and private
sectors has given her a sound realization on the importance of
delivering the right and good concrete quality in the project sites.
She currently serves as a Technical Services Officer and has
deep understanding on best practices when it comes to concrete
designing testing and troubleshooting. Grace also holds an ACI
certification on Concrete Field testing Technician.
