1. Which countries teach English as a foreign language? Give at least five.

 Philippines ,South Korea, Columbia, Japan, China, and Taiwan

2. Does knowing how to speak English help you when you are in a foreign country? If so, state at
least three instances when it may be beneficial.
 Yes
o As English is the universal language of all, it will help us to communicate with
foreigners easily.
o It can help you get a better job.
o With English, you can study all over the world.

3. How does being fluent in English make you more competitive in the classroom?
 Most of our subjects have lots of English language so being fluent in English makes a
student more competitive in class. Education is very important to improve yourself but
learning English also improves the quality of life

II.
A. Write a short story incorporating at least four of the patterns of development. Indicate on each
paragraph what examples of pattern of development you have used. (15 points)

 (Narration) Once upon a time, there was a girl named "Kisses". (Description) She was
smart and beautiful so everyone in their school admires her. But there was also a girl in
their school who envy her. Her name is "Cloud." She is also a beautiful student and lots
of guys are having a crush on her. (Comparison and Contrast) The both of them are
beautiful but Kisses have more admirers than Cloud because aside from being Smart, she
is also very kind unlike Cloud. (Problem- solution) Cloud is very insecure of her because
Kisses always gets the first rank in everything while she always gets 2nd. One day, Cloud
realizes that, envying Kisses won't benefit her so she started to be contented with herself
and with what she has.

B. Upon stepping on the high school level, a teenager encounters all sorts of problems. Pick a
problem that you or someone you know had, which you feel is most important. List down all the
possible solutions, and give the advantages and disadvantages of each. In addition, if you were to
choose a type of solution, what would you choose: a quick fix or a laborious one that will last
longer in effect? (20 points)

Advantage:
 You will be predictable. By not being confident, you can predict how people will treat
you.

Disadvantages:
 Having lots of questions about yourself
 Being sad whenever you face different kinds of matter because you think you are unable
to do things right.
 You will always feel bad about yourself and feel incompetent.

Solution: You should surround yourself with the right people.

 Don't compare yourself.
 Be positive always.
