A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF BROOKHAVEN AFFIRMING ITS COMMITMENT TO
THE BROOKHAVEN POLICE DEPARTMENT AND REMAINING AT THE FOREFRONT OF
THE POLICE REFORM MOVEMENT

WHEREAS, section 2.11 of the Charter of the City of Brookhaven confers authority and power to
the City Council to do such as it deems necessary or helpful to the peace, good order, protection of
life and property, comfort, prosperity or well-being of the inhabitants of the City, and;
WHEREAS, the City values and greatly appreciates the services provided by the Brookhaven Police
Department; and
WHEREAS, the City has a long-standing commitment of support for the Brookhaven Police
Department and all the men and women of the Brookhaven Police Department; and
WHEREAS, in continuing support of this effort, the City desires to remain transparent and
accountable in ensuring that the law enforcement strategy and performance properly addresses the
current and future needs of the City as well as implements and utilizes modern best policing practices
for law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, in continuing support of this effort, the City desires to provide our residents a medium
where they can provide input on plans for implementation for potential law enforcement practices.
WHEREAS, the City, including the Brookhaven Police Department, will work collaboratively with
surrounding county and city public safety agencies in implementing said modern best policing
practices for law enforcement to better prepare our officer so they are successful in providing a safer
community for the residents of the City.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council declare that the City of
Brookhaven is affirming its support and commitment to men and women of the Brookhaven Police
Department while simultaneously remaining at the forefront of the Police Reform Movement by
providing our officers with the resources and tools necessary for implementing modern best policing
practices for law enforcement now and in the future.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Brookhaven, Georgia this XXTH day
of July, 2020.
