LHA Distance Learning Behavior Hierarchy

Proactive & Responsive Behavior Supports for Distance Learning

Aspire’s Equity Consideration:

The COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented circumstances for our scholars, families, and staff.
Consequently, anxiety, stress, and lack of social interaction/physical outlet can all manifest as maladaptive
behaviors. We are all working to wrap around our scholars, so the following offerings are not intended to
be over-used or punitive during these challenging times.

LHA’s Philosophy & Approach:

We will continue to stay committed to our mission and vision that calls upon us to do what is necessary to
serve our scholars best by creating safe, positive, and inclusive learning environments for each of our
Titans. Undoubtedly, there will be countless new challenges in the virtual classroom setting; however, our
preparedness, actions, and responses will be the determinant of our success. A significant part of our
success is contingent upon setting clear expectations in our virtual classrooms and digital social spaces
coupled with an effective and equitable behavior hierarchy to result in appropriate disciplinary action and
additional support.

LHA Zoom Nonnegotiable Settings:

Before the Session:
1. Log in to Zoom with your Aspire email
2. Mute all participants upon entering the meeting
3. Enable your “waiting room”
4. Disable “allow participants to join before the host”
5. Disable the private chat feature
6. Prevent participants from saving the chat
7. Disable “allow participants to rename themselves” option
8. Disable screen share settings
9. Manage annotation settings
10. Choose to play an enter/exit chime

Teacher Move: Keep all participants muted while making announcements, addressing content, or giving
direction. You can choose to unmute participants when you need scholars to engage, respond, or
collaborate.

During the Session:

1. Mute the participant
2. Place the “attendee on hold”
3. Remove the participant from the session
4. Do not use breakout sessions without additional support
5. Assign the student to a “Titan Timeout” in a breakout room (ASP/Admin support needed)
6. Chat with host-only (if needed)
