COMMON SIGNS OF LOW VISION AMONG

STUDENTS
 Stumbling and bumping into objects
 Squeezing or pressing the eyes
 Very short reading and writing distances
 Needing more light to be able to see
 A child who does not show interest in his/ her
surrounding
 If one cannot differentiate obvious colours and
shapes
 Problems seeing at the black board or reading
 Tilted head posture [for those with squints]
 Children with abnormal appearance of both eyes and
abnormal head postures

HOW A TEACHER CAN HANDLE THE PROBLEM OF LOW


VISION IN CLASS
 Write thick letters in the exercise book and on the
black board
 Provide adequate light in the class room
 Change sitting position for a low vision case e.g. bring
them in front near the blackboard
 Use good contrast on the black board
 Write big letters on the black board
 Avoid stigmatization of low vision cases in the
classroom
 Critically observe the letters of the words written by
a low vision case while assessing
 Avoid publically displaying marks for special needs
students
 If visual challenges persist, please refer the client for
further specialized management
