Who would have thought that a few months ago we would be dealing
with what we are today? There is the covid virus, shutdown of the
economy, isolation, decisions concerning opening of schools, not to
mention the personal things in our lives. We have had to postpone most
of our ministries and programs. No wonder there is fear, anxiety,
discouragement and a host of other emotional and physical issues to
deal with. But we must not forget that no matter what happens God is still
on the throne and is in control. He has a purpose and a plan for our lives
as individuals and a body of Christ. In the midst of it all, God’s people are
still called to “Rejoice in the Lord always” (Philippians 4:4).
By joy, the Bible does not mean going around with a continuous grin on
your face. Nor does it mean denying grief or sorrow in times of trial. But it
does mean an inner state of contentment and thankfulness toward God
for His abundant grace and goodness toward us in Christ. Godly joy is
marked by hope in the promises of God concerning our salvation and
future with Him. It is a solid, steady-flowing stream that is not diminished
by difficult circumstances, because its focus is not on circumstances or
self, but on God and His purpose.
Paul’s letter to the Philippians overflows with the theme of joy. He Inside this issue:
mentions joy, rejoicing, or gladness at least 17 times in these four short
chapters, and that in spite of his circumstances which seemed to hinder
Paul from having joy. On Sunday mornings, I am beginning a series of
1
messages on joy. We will be reminded of lasting joy that comes from Pastor’s Remarks
God. I hope you will be present as we go through this book.

Since 1918, GuideStone Financial Resources has been on a “Mission” to provide “Dignity” to
retired Southern Baptist ministers, workers and their widows. These are men and women who
have faithfully served God’s people and now find themselves struggling to meet even basic
needs. Many served small, rural churches that paid only modest salaries and couldn’t afford to
contribute to their pastors’ retirement. Often, these loyal soldiers of the cross had to work extra
jobs just to make ends meet.
Mission:Dignity currently helps almost 1,700 households with extra money needed for housing,
food and vital medications. It has also ensured a well-deserved dignity, independence and,
often, the ability to continue serving.
God’s promise to provide for His faithful servants, and our opportunity to act on that promise, are
at the heart of the Mission:Dignity ministry. Join us in extending God’s care and compassion to
His faithful servants, providing the comfort and dignity they deserve.
Mission Dignity has paid out more than $7.5 million annually in assistance. The majority of the
funding for this ministry comes from the direct gifts of individuals, groups and churches in our
Southern Baptist family to the Mission:Dignity ministry. All gifts to Mission Dignity go to help
those in need with nothing taken out for administrative expenses and are tax-deductible to the
maximum amount allowed by law.
Thank you for giving to retired ministers and widows in need through the ministry of Mission
Dignity. Your generosity continues to provide what they lack. God’s Word is true, so we know He
will provide for you as you provide for them.
