To run effective campaigns, we must have potential candidates

identified by the end of the year. We have a number posts to fill in Marion County, starting with
our first focus: township races.

Township School Board (or IPS): Part-time. This board basically runs the school district.
Hires the superintendent, sets the budget, approves policy. Must have resided within the School
District for at least one year before the election, and should be at least 21. Cannot be a felon.
Cannot be an employee of said school district.

Township Trustee (one for each of our nine townships): Full-time. Cannot be a felon. The
Trustee is the Township Executive, and Manages all township property, Receives and pays out
township funds, Administers township poor relief; and oversees fire protection.

Township Constable of the Small Claims Court: Full-time. Must have resided in the township
for more than one (1) year and must be at least twenty-one (21) years old. Cannot be a felon.
The Constable acts as the bailiff of the court; has police powers to keep the peace and carry out
the orders of the court, is responsible for all the official acts of the deputies.

Township Small Claims Court Judge: Full-time. Must have resided in the township for at least
one year, must be of high moral character and reputation, and must be “admitted to the practice of
law in Indiana upon filing a declaration of candidacy or petition of nomination or upon the filing
of a certificate of candidate selection under IC 3-13-1-15 or IC 3-13-2-8.” Cannot be a felon.

County Auditor: Full-time. Must have resided in the county for at least one year. Cannot be a
felon. The Marion County Auditor is the CFO of the County and serves as secretary of the Board
of County Commissioners. In Marion County, the Auditor is responsible for: Administration of
all funds and grants, Managing accounts payable and payroll, maintaining property tax deductions
for all county property owners, Managing records and notices of sale of real estate delinquent in
taxes, and Accepting and managing petitions or remonstrances and certifying the names of
property owners.

County Sheriff: Full-time. Must have resided in the county for at least one year. Cannot be a
felon. The Marion County Sheriff's Department is the largest sheriff's department in Indiana, and
employs over a thousand sworn, merit, civil, and special deputies and communications,
correctional and civilian personnel. The Marion County Jail is the largest jail in Indiana.

County Assessor: Full-time. Must have resided in the county for at least one year, and must own
real property located in the county upon taking office. Cannot be a felon. The Assessor’s Office
locates, identifies, and appraises all taxable property in accordance with Indiana law. Oversees
the General Reassessment process. Serves as Member/Secretary of the County Property Tax
Assessment Board of Appeals. Acts as the Inheritance Tax Appraiser and represents the
Inheritance Tax Division.
County Recorder: Full-time. Must have resided in the county for at least one year. Cannot be a
felon. The County Recorder records any instrument submitted for recording, makes all recorded
documents a matter of public record, files Uniform Commercial Code Instruments, and provides
public access to all recorded documents .

County Clerk: Full-time. Cannot be a felon. The Clerk serves as the Circuit Court Clerk and
also as the Secretary to the County Election Board which is responsible for conducting all
elections in Marion County including the certification of results. The Clerk serves as trustee of
child support collections ordered by the Court to be paid through the Clerk's Office and also acts
as the chief financial officer to the Courts by collecting, disbursing, and reconciling monies
related to court cases. The Clerk collects filing fees, court costs, and judgment monies in civil
cases. In criminal and infraction cases, the Clerk collects fees and fines for city, county and state
jurisdictions, deferral and pretrial diversion fees, bail bond monies, and restitution ordered by the
Court. In Marion County, the Clerk also collects probation related fees.

County Prosecutor: Full-time. “A candidate for the office of prosecuting attorney must be
admitted to the practice of law in the state before the election, as provided in Article 7, Section 16
of the Constitution of the State of Indiana.” Cannot be a Felon. The Prosecutor represents the
State of Indiana and prosecutes violators of state statutes in various courts in his judicial circuit
having criminal jurisdiction. This office is not strictly a county office since the prosecutor is
elected for a judicial circuit in the same manner as Judges.

Indiana Senate Districts 29 & 31: “part” time. Must be 25+. Must have lived in Indiana for at
least 2 years and in the district for at least 1 year. Cannot be a Felon.

Indiana House Districts 25, 86, 87, 88, 89, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99 & 100: “part”
time. Must be 21+. Must have lived in Indiana for at least 2 years and in the district for at least 1
year. Cannot be a Felon.

US Congress 7th District: Full-time. “No person shall be a representative who shall not have
attained to the age of twenty-five years, and been seven years a citizen of the United States, and
who shall not, when elected, be an inhabitant of that state in which he shall be chosen.” No
district residency requirement. No Felony restriction.

US Senate: Full-time. “No person shall be a senator who shall not have attained to the age of
thirty years, and been nine years a citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected,
be an inhabitant of that state for which he shall be chosen.” No Felony restriction.

Secretary of State (our ballot access race): Full Time. Cannot be a felon. In the line of
succession for Governor. Duties of the office include the maintenance of state records and
preservation of the state seal, chartering of new business, regulation of the securities industry,
administering regulations relating to the registration of motorized vehicle dealers, and oversight
of state elections.

Auditor of State: Full Time. Cannot be a felon. In the line of succession for Governor, and the
CFO of the State of Indiana. Duties include accounting for all of the State's funds; overseeing and
disbursing county, city, town, and school tax distributions; paying the State's bills; and paying the
State's employees. The Auditor of State is the Administrator of the State of Indiana Deferred
Compensation Plan.
Treasurer of State: Full Time. Cannot be a felon. In the line of succession for Governor, and is
the Chief Investment Officer for the State of Indiana. The treasurer of state is responsible for the
safekeeping and investment of moneys and securities paid into the state treasury, and serves as
Chairman of the Wireless Enhanced 911 Board, as Chairman of Indiana's College Choice 529
Savings Plan, Chairman of the Indiana Bond Bank, and as trustee for the Indiana State Police
Pension Fund.

Superior Court Judges: The thirty-two judges of the Marion County Superior Court are elected
at the general election. Candidates for these offices are nominated by political parties in the
primary election using a special procedure set out in IC 33-33-49-13.
