English as Common Business Language : The Current Situation in Algerian Corporations

Introduction :

The study explores the status of English use in businesses in Algeria to find out how English is
being used in corporations in Algeria . Many multinational corporations are using English as their
official or common language. Non-Anglophone companies in Europe, as well as companies in
Algeria such as Sonatrach and SNVI Benz , are reported to be using English as their corporate
official or common language. To find out the impacts and implications of the use of English for
international communication ,and what efforts are made in order to strengthen English language
use between different employees . we’re making questionnaires for bilingual employees who
use English for their daily business. Interviews as well , will be conducted on small group of
Algerian bilingual professionals , searching for potential patterns or characteristics, with the aim of
inducing and generating a hypothesis (or hypotheses) in the end. English is required in various
types of corporations in Algeria, across many different industries, regardless of sizes of
organizations, and country of origin. The Algerian multinational companies are trying to
implement English as their official language through overly emphasizing on improving the
proficiency of English.

The objective of the research concerns the use of English language in different multinational
companies as well as to its importance in business corporations in Algeria .

The purpose of the study is to uncover and analyze the ways in which English is used for business
and how it is valued .Although the common perception that the society has a historical background
with French colonization and French was mostly present in all areas .Now, English is being used in
much broader areas in in various situation of domestic and international business .

Probably , the insight from the future findings can be incorporated into the management of the
corporations in Algeria as well as reflected in the teaching of English in the business context .
