I. OBJECTIVES:
Through thorough discussions and examples, the learners are expected to:
a. recognize the rules to employ in converting a direct speech to an indirect one;
b. appreciate successful communications in practical situations; and
c. use direct and reported speech appropriately in different contexts.

III. PROCEDURE:
A. Motivation

 The teacher presents a funny video clip about a communication that went wrong.
 The teacher asks:
a. How was the message relayed by each player in the game? Was the message passed
successfully?
b. Where did the communication go wrong?
c. What significance does each player hold towards the success of the game?

B. Lesson Proper
 The teacher discusses the rules in converting Direct Speech into Reported Speech.
 Examples are given.
 The teacher presents another video clip/s for more examples.

C. Activity/Activities:
In groups, the learners choose an activity below and use direct and reported speech in doing the
following:
a. Compose a travelogue.
b. Perform a talk show about Catriona Gray’s win in the Ms. Universe Pageant.
c. Role-play as Interviewers and Interviewees in a job interview.
D. Generalization:
Why is it significant to relay the right message?

IV. ASSESSMENT:
Convert each Direct speech to Reported speech.
1. “I am never coming back,” Mother said.
2. Mark said, “I will catch the last train home”.
3. “I arrived yesterday,” Mark added.
4. He said, “Father is coming to town”.
5. “I am ruined,” the old man said.

V. ASSESSMENT:
In two paragraphs, write your own story of celebrating Christmas and welcoming the New Year
using Direct and Reported Speech.
