Overpass / Flyovers
? An overpass (called a flyover in the UK and
most Commonwealth countries) is a bridge,
road, railway or similar structure that crosses
over another road or railway.

? A pedestrian overpass allows pedestrians

safe crossing over busy roads without
impacting traffic.

Viaduct
? A viaduct is a bridge composed of several
small spans.

? Many viaducts comprised a series of arches

of roughly equal length. Viaducts may span
land or water.

Viaduct cont..
? Many viaducts over land connect points of similar
height in a land level.

? Viaducts over water are often combined with other

types of bridges or tunnels to cross passable water.

? The viaduct sections, while less expensive to design

and build than tunnels or bridges with larger spans.

Joints
? To relief the temperature stress, joints are
provided in concrete deck. They can be
classified as (upon its location),

? Longitudinal joints
