CHAPTER ONE:

“THE SPOUTER INN”


1.- Summary

Chapter One has been divided into seven parts. Choose


from the list A-I the sentence which best summarises each
part (1-7) of the chapter. There is one extra sentence which
you do not need to use. There is an example at the
beginning (0).

 Ishmael said that he felt like a cold, wed November morning. The sea makes his feel better

 The disturbing aboud that is Coffin which is the box dead bodies are buried in.

C. What are the two possible meanings of the sentence "He's out trying to sell his head"? What
is its meaning here?

 The possible meaning is that he is trying to sell his own head or part of his body and other
meaning is that he is trying to sell a shrunken head that belongs to him.

D. What kind of sailor was Ishmael's roommate?

 Ishmael was a harpooner

 Ishmael's roommate too was rightenet. He did not know who Ishmael was and said he was
going to kill him

 They are on either side of the whale's head. The whale sees two different images of each thing. He
thought that it was possible to see two sides of everything, but Ahab could only see Moby Dick in
one way as evil.

8 .-What would Ahab like to know from the whale?

 The deepest mysteries of life.

9.- What did they do with the whale corpse in the end?

 They let it float away in the sea.
