Recommended Mounting Information

• The recommended mounting height for the EF-45 is 155cm (61 inches) from
floor to the bottom of EF-45. The mounting height can be adjusted to
accommodate the height of the average user within the population.

• Strong ambient light and / or direct light into the front side of the EF-45 should
be avoided. Sunlight, halogen lamps or other strong illumination may reduce
the performance of the EF-45 and may result in increased failure-to-capture
rates or failed authentication events.

• The EF-45 was designed for indoor use only. This unit is not weatherproof and
must not be exposed to water, ice, extreme temperatures or other adverse
weather conditions. If it is required to use this unit in outdoor or extreme
environments contact local sales or service@cmi-tech.com for more
information.

Note: Installation in extreme environments without proper protection may cause

permanent damage and void warranty.

General Wiring Requirements
The EF-45 requires at least the following wiring:
• Ethernet network wiring to connect with the network switch for communication.

• Note: Cat5 cable or better is recommended.

• Power input cable wiring: 20 AWG

• Power Input requirement: 12VDC +/- 5%, minimum 42W (12VDC @ 3.5 amps)

Note: Use of stable power supply and proper gauge wire is required. Any over-
or under-voltage applied to this unit may cause permanent damage and void the
warranty.

Standard Installation to Wall Surface or Gang Box

Detach the installation plate from the EF-45 by removing the screw (M3 x 6mm) at the
bottom of unit. Separate the wall plate from the rear cover by sliding the plate
downward. Screw will be re-used to attach the EF-45 to the wall plate following
installation of the wall plate and wiring.

M3 x 6mm screw. Can be

replaced with a M3 security
type screw of proper length.

• Installation can be accomplished by mounting directly to a wall (Surface Mount)

or to a Gang Box.

• For a Surface Mount installation, place the installation (wall) plate on the desired
wall location and screw into wall as indicated in the Surface Mount diagram
below. Ensure that bottom tab in plate faces outward and cable routing
opening in EF-45 matches opening in wall. Utilization of wall anchors is
mandatory.

USB WiFi Installation – Internal Antenna Type
Notes:
1) Ensure that LAN connection is removed from EF-45 in advance.
2) Put USB WiFi when EF-45 is turned off
3) After installation turn on EF-45.
4) Choose a network in Setting > Network > WiFi > Scan and select DHCP or
Static.
The performance of WiFi is affected by local environment and the type of AP
(Access Point). It is necessary to utilize only CMITech authorized USB WiFi
devices.
CMITech authorized internal antenna is model TL-WN823N made by TP-LINK.
Please find a local market or international web store to buy this model. Contact
sales@cmi-tech or service@cmi-tech.com for support.
Usage of other USB WiFi adapters may not work properly with EF-45 system due to
lack of proper Linux driver.

Relay Connection – Fail Safe Lock (Dead-Bolt Type Door Lock)
Notes:
1) Ensure that direction of the diode is correct.
2) Install the diode close to the door lock.
3) Use different power supplies for the EF-45 and the door lock.
4) Install the diode at both ends of the circuit as shown in the figure below
in order to protect the relay contact from the reverse current that occurs
when the door lock works.

There are two types of dead-bolt door lock connections / configurations supported:
1. Single EF-45 system with one lock (fail secure lock)
2. Two EF-45 systems with one lock (fail secure lock)

Notes:
1) Please be sure that the Data0 and Data 1 are internally pulled up by
4.7K resistor to internal +5V VCC of EF-45.

RS-485 Network Connection

Note: The devices at the end of the RS-485 bus network must be terminated.
The signal quality will vary depending on wiring and so it may be necessary to
adjust the communication speed (baud rate) as needed. The GND signal may be
omitted only if the GND potential difference is less than DC ±5V.

Ferrite Core Installation

Note: It is recommended that cables listed below can be wound around the core
by 2 turns if it is connected to an external device for reliable system performance
needed. This is not the mandatory requirement for using Ferrite Core.
1. RS-232 cable
2. RS-485 cable
3. Power cable
4. TTL/Wiegand cable
